Extracting data about entities from the Web has become commonplace in the industry and academia alike. Web-based entities, however, are inherently noisy and, as such, introduce several normalization issues which must be attended to in order to maintain a clean database. Record linkage, which refers to the detection of replicated datum from possibly multiple sources, is one of the most critical of those issues. This paper presents a practical approach for solving the record linkage problem in the places data domain at an industrial scale, displaying both a model which reaches a normalized Gini coefficient of 0.92, and an architecture that supports large-scale processing.

This chapter describes an eHealth human-like conversational agent called Maria embedded in the Web page of the Health Department of the Junta de Andalucía in Spain. Although this implementation is based on a strong theoretical background, a more practical approach has been preferred for the real-world case hereby described. Maria has been designed to perform several major tasks: she can arrange a doctor’s appointment, reply to queries pertaining to many varied subdomains, and navigate through the Web page. One of Maria’s most remarkable features is the successful application of advanced design and humanizing techniques which endow her with unusual skills and an enticing personality. Maria has been developed by Intelligent Dialogue Systems (Indisys) within a larger scale Web development project conducted by Sadiel SA.

Abstract This article explains the development and use of ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes, CPT procedure codes, and HCPCS supply/device codes. Examples of appropriate coding combinations, and Coding rules adopted by most third party payers are given. Additionally, references for complete code lists on the Web and a list of voice-related CPT code edits are included. The reader is given adequate information to report an evaluation or treatment session with accurate diagnosis, procedure, and supply/device codes. Speech-language pathologists can accurately code services when given adequate resources and rules and are encouraged to insert relevant codes in the medical record rather than depend on billing personnel to accurately provide this information. Consultation is available from the Division 3 Reimbursement Committee members and from [email protected] .
