Urban building energy modeling (UBEM) is arousing interest in building energy modeling, which requires a large building dataset as an input. Building use is a critical parameter to infer archetype buildings for UBEM. This paper presented a case study to determine building use for city-scale buildings by integrating the Geographic Information System (GIS) based point-of-interest (POI) and community boundary datasets. A total of 68,966 building footprints, 281,767 POI data, and 3367 community boundaries were collected for Changsha, China. The primary building use was determined when a building was inside a community boundary (i.e., hospital or residential boundary) or the building contained POI data with main attributes (i.e., hotel or office building). Clustering analysis was used to divide buildings into sub-types for better energy performance evaluation. The method successfully identified building uses for 47,428 buildings among 68,966 building footprints, including 34,401 residential buildings, 1039 office buildings, 141 shopping malls, and 932 hotels. A validation process was carried out for 7895 buildings in the downtown area, which showed an overall accuracy rate of 86%. A UBEM case study for 243 office buildings in the downtown area was developed with the information identified from the POI and community boundary datasets. The proposed building use determination method can be easily applied to other cities. We will integrate the historical aerial imagery to determine the year of construction for a large scale of buildings in the future.

Stranded cetaceans have scientific value and may confirm the occurrence of some species or indicate their geographical distribution in an area. The collection of biological material can also contribute to improve the knowledge of the species or populations inhabiting certain areas. This study aimed to record live or dead cetaceans found ashore along the coast of Ilhéus, Bahia State, northeastern Brazil. Data were collected through a campaign called "SOS strandings, whales, porpoises and dolphins." Between 1997 and 1999 three hundred posters and five hundred folders were distributed to beach huts, shops, fishing associations and settlements, the city's municipal government, the Brazilian Environmental Agency (IBAMA) and fire stations. During this campaign, which lasted until 2007 it was possible to record 38 cetaceans of ten species on the coast of Ilhéus: Physeter macrocephalus, Megaptera novaeangliae, Globicephala macrorhynchus, Orcinus orca, Peponocephala electra, Stenella clymene, Feresa attenuata, Ziphius cavirostris, Steno bredanensis and Sotalia guianensis. The greatest numbers of records were observed between 2000 and 2003, which was the period after the distribution of banners and posters. The majority of the carcasses were recovered near the city downtown area (<10 km) and there was not a relationship between the state of the carcasses and the distance from that area.

Antecedentes. La complejidad ambiental observada en una localidad ha sido estudiada a través de un modelo isomórfico en el que se anticipa la emergencia de dos identidades: una entrópica y otra neguentrópica. En situaciones de riesgo, escasez e insalubridad, las comunidades se organizan para reducir los efectos de los desastres naturales sobre la salud comunitaria. Objetivo. Especificar un modelo para el estudio del estrés y la resiliencia comunitaria ante los eventos de riesgo ambiental y los desastres naturales. Método. Se llevó a cabo un estudio no experimental, transversal y exploratorio con una selección no probabilística de 600 afectados por las inundaciones de un rio en la zona del centro de México. Resultados. Se encontraron diferencias significativas entre hombres y mujeres con respecto a sus niveles de riesgo, estrés y resiliencia que sirvieron para especificar el modelo de relaciones de dependencia entre las variables que explican la complejidad ambiental isomórfica. Discusión. En relación con otras especificaciones de modelos se recomienda incluir las variables con la finalidad de demostrar las trayectorias lógicas de relaciones de dependencia propuestas.Background. Environmental complexity observed in one locality has been studied through an isomorphic model in which the emergence of two identities are anticipated: an entropic and other neguentropic. Specify a model for the study of stress and community resilience to environmental risk events and natural disasters. Method. a non-experimental, cross-sectional and exploratory study with a nonrandom selection of 600 affected by the flooding of a river in the downtown area of Mexico was held. Results. significant differences between men and women regarding their risk levels, stress and resilience that served to specify the model of dependency relationships between variables that explain the environmental complexity isomorphic found. Discussion. For other specifications recommended models include variables in order to demonstrate the logical paths proposals dependency relationships.

The old downtown area of ​​Banda Aceh holds high historical value, as evidenced by the many historic relics that still survive as a historic object in the region. The existence of these ancient artifacts can complement the historical narrative as well as the authentic proof of the identity of the city of Banda Aceh. The central area of ​​Banda Aceh requires interesting public spaces to make the existence of these historic assets more prominent as an element of the attraction of this historic area. This study aims to strengthen the identity of the downtown area of ​​Banda Aceh through an architectural design concept in a potential public corridor that has not been optimally utilized. The idea is to assemble historic spaces in this corridor to make it easier and convenient for pedestrians to access. This research is done by recording visual image of open space in public corridor area to capture visual picture and to know physical quality of public spaces in the location. Increased visual accentuation in the public corridors of the downtown area of ​​Banda Aceh can form visual sequences that provide different spatial experiences. The experience of this space arises from the historical space-themed space phases supported by the gradual display of space elements. The key to success in strengthening the identity of this corridor is the selection of the design of appropriate elements of space, in accordance with the character of space that can represent the values ​​and historical identity of the region.
