Strong labour laws play a major role in motivating innovation among employees. It has been found in the literature that stringency of labour laws is positively linked with employees’ efforts in innovation, in particular, wrongful discharge laws (WDL). However, employees may also bring nuisance suits against employers. Usually, the result of these suits is that both parties settle with each other. Thus, even if employees are justly dismissed, they may be able to bring nuisance suits against employers and gain a settlement amount. This article investigates how the possibility of nuisance suits affects the impact of WDL on employees’ efforts in innovation. In this respect, a game-theoretic model is developed in the article to find the equilibrium level of employees’ efforts in the presence of nuisance suits, where there is a possibility of employees getting discharged from the firm. I find that if nuisance suits are a possibility, the stringency of WDL has no impact on employees’ efforts if defence cost of the firm is low; but for higher defence costs, WDL affects employees’ efforts. The efforts exerted by an employee are found to be weakly increasing in the defence costs of the firm.

In this paper, we consider a Hilbert-space-valued autoregressive stochastic sequence (Xn) with several regimes. We suppose that the underlying process (In) which drives the evolution of (Xn) is stationary. Under some dependence assumptions on (In), we prove the existence of a unique stationary solution, and with a symmetric compact autocorrelation operator, we can state a law of large numbers with rates and the consistency of the covariance estimator. An overall hypothesis states that the regimes where the autocorrelation operator's norm is greater than 1 should be rarely visited.

SummaryA simulation model for the population dynamics of Eimeria acervulina infection in broilers is presented. The model describes the development of the numbers of parasites in the various life-stages during the growing period of broilers and the empty house period between grow-outs. The model includes assumptions with respect to development of immunity to E. acervulina infection and effects of application of anticoccidial drugs. The model consists of a set of difference equations that are solved numerically at 1 h intervals. Under constant conditions, an equilibrium level was reached after a few grow-outs during which infection always peaked around the 21st day in the growing period. Within a growing period, infection peaked earlier (later) than the 21st day in case initial numbers of sporulated oocysts were higher (lower) than the equilibrium number.

Prior research has shown the independent effects of average product ratings and number of reviews for online purchases, but the relative influence of these aggregate review attributes is still debated in the literature. In this research, the authors demonstrate the conditional influences of these two attributes as a function of the valence of average product ratings and the level of review numbers in a choice set. Specifically, they argue that the diagnosticity of the number of reviews, relative to average product ratings, increases when average product ratings are negative or neutral (vs. positive) and when the level of review numbers in a choice set is low (vs. high). As a result, when consumers choose among the best options on one of the review attributes (average product ratings or the number of reviews), their preference shifts from the higher-rated option with fewer reviews toward the lower-rated option with more reviews. The authors demonstrate this preference shift in seven studies, elucidate the underlying process by which this occurs, and conclude with a discussion of the implications for retailers and brands.
