Composition and origin of Visean–Serpukhovian deposits of the Southern part of the Moscow syncline based upon generalizations of our own results and analysis of published and unpublished data were specified. The levels of karst-influenced rocks correspond to the shallowest biogenic carbonate organogeneous-clastic sediments of the initial and final phases of the eustatic cycle, i.e. the beginning of the transgression (the transgressive system of the tracts) and the end of the regression (the second half of the high-standing tract). In the karst cavities alluvial sands of the Oka river were found. A generalized model of the sequence was proposed and a sequential-stratigraphic interpretation of the studied section was carried out.

The Caledonides of East Greenland contain the best exposures of Upper Riphean to Ordovician sediments in the Arctic - North Atlantic region. At its thickest the sequence contains 13 km of Eleonore Bay Group clastic sediments and carbonates, the 0.8 km thick Tillite Group and 3 km of Cambro-Ordovician strata (Henriksen & Higgins, 1976; Henriksen, 1985). These sediments crop out in a belt stretching for nearly 300 km through the fjord region, between 71° 38' and 74° 25'N. Those in the northern part of the region, between Brogetdal in Strindberg Land and southern Payer Land, and especiaIly Albert Heim Bjerge and C. H. Ostenfeld Nunatak, were the subject of investigation during 1988 (figs 1, 2).

North Papua Basin is a fore arc basin located in northern coastal of Papua Island. This basin filled by Middle-Upper Miocene turbidite sediment and overlied by Upper Miocene – Quarternary clastic sediment. Upper Miocene – Quaternary clastic sediments (Mamberamo Formation) composed by interbedding conglomerate, sandstone and shale as molasses deposit. A detailed stratigraphic study was performed to identify facies and its association of the Mamberamo Formation to that give a new perspective on the characteristics and development of facies succession of Lower Mamberamo Formation. Result  shows that the Lower Mamberamo Formation consists of three facies: A) cross bedding sandstone (subtidal), B) heterolothic silty shale (intra-tidal), C) carbonaceous shale (supra-tidal) deposited on Late Miocen to Plio-Pleistocene during centra range orogeny (syn-orogeny) as molasses deposits.Keywords: Fore arc basin, North Papua Basin, Mamberamo Formation, molasse deposits.

This study makes an attempt to characterise Quaternary sediments in terms of their heavy minerals (HM) composition. Authors focus on the Mazovian Lowland, Central Poland, where a number of clastic sediments of different age and origin overlap. Five sedimentary settings, covering the Saalian-Holocene (MIS 1-6) time frame, have been studied to reveal whether these sediments have single or multiple source areas and to decipher sediment transformations. In the glacial setting either garnet- or amphibole-dominated sediments occur. This unequivocal mineral combination likely reflects a multi-sourcing resulting from multi-directional ice advance. The HM taken from fan-like forms and aeolian sediments are closely related; these sediments are largely multicyclic and likely derived from pre-existing recycling sediments. Similar mineral suite is also typical for long-lasting aeolian processes and is observed in dune sediments. Ultrastable components are less frequent in the coversand, which points at a shorter-lived aeolian process. Finally, the fluvial setting reveals multi-sourcing largely depending on local geological conditions.
