This article engages in a survey on the countryside’s building materials in Zhejiang province, and indicates problems in the new countryside construction during the early 1990s to 2005: on one side, rarely few new materials for energy-conservation is being used; on the other side, traditional materials of local characteristics are abandoned. Therefore, this article indicates a range of materials which make improvement or innovation on traditional ones for the characteristic of Zhejiang rural areas. Then comparison is made between clay brick and these ecological materials. As a result, this guides villagers to improve the indoor thermal comfort and to promote rural economic development without large investment.

The traditional rural cultural landscape is facing the danger of disappearance, which has carried the culture of agricultural civilization for thousands years because of rapid urbanization. In this paper, the authors mainly performed deep analysis from the villagers' sense of identity, rural cultural landscape imagery, landscape valuation norms and rural cultural landscape heritage,social integration of demand etc. The authors also proposed the solutions for rural cultural landscape heritage, in order to provide ideas for the protection of rural cultural landscape and development in new countryside construction.

New countryside construction in China is a kind of macroeconomic development strategy aiming at sustainable rural settlement development. More attentions should be paid to caring for farmers’ future livelihoods in the process of sustainable rural settlement development. Based on the analyses and the complexity of China’s rural problems, the authors argue that new countryside construction in China will be an arduous task and a long road.

In order to build the rural ecological civilization, and promote the building of a new socialist countryside, we must attach importance to rural environmental protection. By analyzing the water pollution, soil pollution and solid waste pollution situation in the new countryside construction progress, this paper indicate that three major reasons of the rural ecological environment multiple pollution are pollution-intensive industries rapiddly transferring to rural, excessive use of chemicals and unreasonable use of land, and finally conclude ecological and environmental protection measures: improve the rural ecological environmental protection policies, regulations and standards system; strengthen the government's role in the management of the ecological environment; establish a sound environmental management system in rural areas; and increase environmental publicity, education and training efforts.
