Abstract The paper aims at providing a framework to calculate the agro-eco-compensation standard based on the systems agro-ecological concept of embodied energy as emergy. We have proposed a calculation system of eco-compensation standard for sustainable agricultural development based on the convertibility between emergy and price. According to our calculation, the total energy of agricultural production in Yongding River Basin was 3.45 E + 16 Sej/ha (the unit emergy value, expressed in solar emergy joules per unit) in terms of the renewable resources, nonrenewable resources, material inputs, and service costs. The energy of renewable and nonrenewable resources was 1.59 E + 16 and 1.86E + 16 Sej/ha, respectively. The ESI (environmental sustainability index) of the study area was 0.1056, indicating that its agricultural production was in a seriously unsustainable condition. To realize the sustainable agricultural production in the watershed, the downstream governments should pay $21.81 M (¥135 million) approximately to upstream governments for water and soil conservation. The results of the present study suggested that the emergy-based calculation method of agro-eco-compensation standard is feasible to a certain degree.

Induztrialization edge and economic growth bring some consequences to the society, such as pollution or environmental damage. The responsibility is not only lies in business sector but also contributed by society and public sector-government institution as their daily operational produce some waste material. One ofmaterial use in such organization daily activities is paper. Unproper use of paper will impact on cost inefficiency, as well as environmental damage due to the main material of producing paper taken from forest.Government as public service organization mostly deals with paper in their daily administrative business. While the othersites it also encouraged to put priority on budget efficiency included in paper consumption. This study aims to describe in what extend government efficiency initiative align in it environmental concerned. Specifically this study will explore the use of paper as one of most daily resource in government office using environmental management accounting (EMA)framework. The results convey that notion on some regulation pertaining with budget efficiency in Indonesia has similarity with the spirit and the benefit provided in term of EMA application. By implementing EMA properly, government may get information on cost efficiency along with environmental sustainability.

The main objective of this paper is to show how oral literature is engaged by Swazis with regards to environmental sustainability. It demonstrates the relationship between nature and culture as reflected in Swazi oral literature and how indigenous knowledge embedded in this literature can be used to expand the concepts of eco-literature and eco-criticism. The paper argues that the indigenous environmental expertise among the Swazi people, encapsulated in their oral literature, can serve as a critical resource base for the process of developing a healthy environment. Furthermore, the paper contends that eco-criticism, which is essentially a Western concept, can benefit by drawing inspiration from the indigenous knowledge contained in Swazi culture and expressed in their oral literature. The paper concludes by recommending the need to strengthen traditional and customary knowledge and practices by protecting and recognising the values of such systems in the conservation of biodiversity for sustainable development.
