Heavy quark spectroscopy and exotic states are studied with the ATLAS detector, mainly through final states containing muon pairs from J/ψ decays. This proceedings will summarise recent results from ATLAS on these topics, including production of quarkonium and heavy flavour, searches for exotic states and measurements of decay properties in open beauty production.

Using data taken on 2002 at the CERN SPS accelerator, the NA48/1 collaboration has made the first observation of the rare decays KS→π0e+e- and KS→π0μ+μ-. Seven events were found in the electron channel with an estimated background of [Formula: see text]. For the muon channel 6 events were observed with a background of [Formula: see text]. Using vector a matrix element with unity form factor the resulting branching ratios are: [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text].

AbstractSingle- and double-differential cross-section measurements are presented for the production of top-quark pairs, in the lepton + jets channel at particle and parton level. Two topologies, resolved and boosted, are considered and the results are presented as a function of several kinematic variables characterising the top and $$t\bar{t}$$ t t ¯ system and jet multiplicities. The study was performed using data from pp collisions at centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $$36~\mathrm {fb}^{-1}$$ 36 fb - 1 . Due to the large $$t\bar{t}$$ t t ¯ cross-section at the LHC, such measurements allow a detailed study of the properties of top-quark production and decay, enabling precision tests of several Monte Carlo generators and fixed-order Standard Model predictions. Overall, there is good agreement between the theoretical predictions and the data.

We present a selection of recent heavy-flavour measurements by the ATLAS experiment using data collected during 2011 and 2012. The results include first analysis of associated production of [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] boson, measurement of asymmetry parameter and helicity amplitudes in [Formula: see text] decay and a study of [Formula: see text] decays. Moreover, the first observation of an excited [Formula: see text] meson state and results of a search for the [Formula: see text] and other hidden-beauty states are also shown.

A measurement of [Formula: see text] decay parameters using data collected by the ATLAS detector in [Formula: see text] collisions at 13 TeV in 2015–2017 is performed. Integrated luminosity of this sample is 80.5 fb[Formula: see text]. The measurement of physical parameters are statistically combined with results obtained from Run 1 data at 7 and 8 TeV. The measured value of CP-violating phase [Formula: see text] is obtained, which has significantly better precision in comparison with Run 1 result. Precision of other physical parameters is also improved, including the decay width difference [Formula: see text]. Further improvement is expected from the use of full Run 2 statistics, as well as from modifications in the analysis.
