Dependence of ET(30) of solvent parameters on relative permittivity (ε) and refractive index (n) of solvent has been found for forty solvents in the form ET(30)=29.87 + 72.03 (ε - 1/(2ε + 1)-29.16(ε - 1) (n 2 - 1)/(2ε + 1) (2n2 + 1), the correlation coefficient being 0.958. Relation has been discussed between ET(30) and π solvent parameters and significance of the term (ε - 1). (n2 - 1)/(2ε + 1) (2n2 + 1) has been tested for evaluation of solvent effects in electronic spectra.>

Coating of iron oxide nanoparticles (MNP) is the common approach to reduce the effects of direct toxicity due to the ion oxidation that lead to the damage of DNA. This study investigates the effect of different concentration of Chitosan (Cs) used to coat the magnetic nanoparticle with variation in the crystallite size, chemical bonding, changes in weight and surface morphology. From the XRD results, it shows that the sample 1MNP-1Cs has optimum size of 13.42 ± 0.01 nm. From the FTIR analysis, it is revealed that there are three types of chemical bonding that occur in the MNP-Cs composites which are stretching vibrations of C-H, N–H vibration belonging to Cs and the Fe-O bonds from the MNP. From the FESEM analysis, it is found that the MNP-Cs composites have a wellshaped with spherical in form, as well as, smooth surfaces. As for TGA, the thermal decomposition of MNP nanocomposites was based on the amount of Cs and MNP used to produce the nanocomposites. Further studies will be conducted to find the optimum ratio of MNP-Cs for anticancer drug delivery application.

AbstractThe acceptor number AN and the polarity parameters Z and ET(30) were determined for a series of alcohols applied as media in the study of kinetic solvent effects. The alcohols thus characterized are methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 2-butanol, 2-methyl-2-butanol, 3-pentanol, 2-chloroethanol, 2-methoxyethanol, 2-phenylethanol, 2-cyanoethanol, benzyl alcohol, 3-ethyl-3-pentanol, 2,4-dimethyl-3-pentanol, and 3-ethyl-2,4-dimetliyl-3-pentanol. In addition, AN was determined for 1,2-dichloroethane and Z for the binary solvent mixtures methanol/2-methyl-2-butanol, ethanol/2,2,2-trifluoroethanol. and methanol/pyridine. The data obtained are correlated and the parameters AN, Z, and ET(30) are critically compared.

Hydroxylic solvent effects on 20 rate constants, k, of the Menschutkin reaction of Et3N with EtI are unravelled and rationalized by means of multiple linear regression equations. To perform this analysis new k values in 2 mono- and 9 dialcohols are obtained. New values are also presented for the Kamlet and Taft solvatochromic parameters π*, α and β of 1-hexanol. The results show that the solvent dipolarity, polarizability and cohesive energy density are the main properties influencing the reactivity, for the set of studied solvents.
