This paper has made a study on Mechanical Property of SiC particulate reinforced Magnesium Matrix Composites prepared by Powder Metallurgy.In this paper, powder metallurgy was adopted in the preparation of AZ91 magnesium alloy and magnesium-base composite material alloying two kinds of SiC particle, whose mean diameters were 18μm and 8μm respectively. The mechanical properties of the sample such as hardness, strength of extension and coefficient of friction were tested, while microstructure of material was observed in electron microscope. At last, analysis of the friction and abrasion mode and tensile break mechanism of the material were carried out. By the series of trials, the following result can be concluded: the additions of SiC particle can decrease theβ-Mg17Al12 mesh effectively while increase the degree of densifying. Comparing with AZ91, the addition of SiC particle of diameter 18μm and 8μm increase the material hardness by 6.85% and 26.92%, strength of extension 29.14% and 71.38% and coefficient of friction 2.33% and 9.62%, respectively. Magnesium matrix composites that prepared by powder metallurgy can be used for the production of friction materials.
