AbstractIn the present work, an attempt has been made to synthesize the 1,2,3-triazole derivatives resulting from the click reaction, in a mild and green environment using the new copper(II)-coated magnetic core–shell nanoparticles Fe3O4@SiO2 modified by isatoic anhydride. The structure of the catalyst has been determined by XRD, FE-SEM, TGA, VSM, EDS, and FT-IR analyzes. The high efficiency and the ability to be recovered and reused for at least up to 6 consecutive runs are some superior properties of the catalyst.

BACKGROUNDWhile volume derived global indices of right ventricle (RV) function are frequently abnormal after the Mustard procedure, the mechanism for these abnormalities is poorly understood. RV muscle fibres are predominantly arranged longitudinally and thus indices derived in the long axis may better describe RV function.METHODS20 survivors of the Mustard operation were studied (age 7.8–37.3 years, median 14.2 years). Long axis recordings from the apical four chamber view were obtained with the M mode cursor positioned through the lateral angle of the tricuspid valve annulus. M mode traces were recorded on paper and later digitised to derive total atrioventricular ring excursion, peak lengthening rate, and peak shortening rate. These data were averaged and compared with control data for the normal RV and left ventricle (LV).RESULTSRV total atrioventricular ring excursion was lower than that for the RV (p < 0.0001) or LV (p < 0.005) of controls. Peak lengthening rate was lower than the normal RV (p < 0.0001) and LV (p < 0.0001) rates. Furthermore, peak shortening rate was less than that of normal RV (p < 0.0001) and normal LV (p < 0.005) controls.CONCLUSIONSystemic RV long axis function is notably reduced compared with that of either the normal subpulmonary RV or the systemic LV. This presumably reflects the response of the predominantly longitudinally arranged myocardial fibres to increased afterload. However, such measurements may provide a more sensitive marker for progressive changes in global function during long term follow up.

The chiral title compounds, C21H18N2O2, (I), and C21H18N2OS, (II) – products of the three-component reaction between benzylamine, isatoic anhydride and furyl- or thienyl-acrolein – are isostructural and form isomorphous racemic crystals. The tetrahydropyrimidine ring in (I) and (II) adopts a sofa conformation. The amino N atom has a trigonal–pyramidal geometry [sum of the bond angles is 347.0° for both (I) and (II)], whereas the amido N atom is flat [sum of the bond angles is 359.3° for both (I) and (II)]. The furyl- and thienylethenyl substituents in (I) and (II) are planar and the conformation about the bridging C=C bond isE. These bulky fragments occupy the axial position at the quaternary C atom of the tetrahydropyrimidine ring, apparently, due to steric reasons. In the crystals, molecules of (I) and (II) form hydrogen-bonded helicoidal chains propagating along [010] by strong intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds.

AbstractThe development of newer, load-independent indices of contractility has not substantially reduced general clinical reliance on ejection fraction and shortening fraction to detect abnormalities of contractility, in spite of common understanding of the preload and afterload dependence of percent fiber shortening. The more widespread application of sensitive indices of contractility has been impeded in part by complex methods of acquisition and analysis of data as well as uncertainty concerning the clinical importance of the additional derived information. Substantial recent experience with analysis of stress-shortening and stress-velocity, nonetheless, demonstrates that physiologically meaningful indices of afterload, preload, and contractility can be obtained noninvasively without hemodynamic interventions. There is extensive theoretical and experimental basis for these methods, and the limitations are similar to other global indices of myocardial mechanics. The superiority of methods which allow distinction between contractile abnormalities and abnormal load are particularly important when altered ventricular loading conditions are a prominent feature of the disease state. Several clinical situations have been identified for which analysis of stress-shortening and stress-velocity demonstrates that assessment by fiber shortening alone has resulted in misrepresentation of myocardial status. The clinical utility of assessment of ventricular function is considerably enhanced when the relative contribution of load and contractile performance is determined.
