The chapter presents the approach of effective utilization of information and communication technology as a competitive advantage for knowledge-based development of cities. Knowledge investment, creation, and diffusion are the essential nodes of the information and communication technology spine for developing knowledge-based cites. The features of knowledge-based city compared to the modern and developed city are introduced. This chapter identifies the primary conditions that promote knowledge-based development of cities. The associative relationships between knowledge-base and economical development of cities are addressed.

The first section of this paper explores the ‘discovery’ of organised ritual abuse and reviews the literature with particular attention to the developing knowledge base, the question of credibility, the silencing of debate, and the ongoing research. The second section considers the central research issues. The question of definition is discussed and the adoption of ‘organised ritual abuse’ as a working definition is proposed. The four aspects of organised ritual abuse, which analysis of the literature suggests are its key defining features, are then discussed. Finally, consideration is given to the importance of values in this field of research.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that can emerge after exposure to an extreme traumatic stressor involving actual or threatened death or serious injury. PTSD has not been demonstrated to represent a unified construct such as that established for other validated psychiatric disorders identified in this text, but a developing knowledge base for PTSD is promising for future validation of this diagnosis. PTSD is an unusual diagnosis because of the conditional nature of this disorder that requires exposure to a traumatic event for consideration of the diagnosis. Individuals who have not been exposed to a traumatic event cannot meet criteria for PTSD. This feature of PTSD has created difficulties in applying this diagnosis in both clinical and research settings.
