2,4.6-Trialkylpyrylium perchlorates afford in high yields by hydrogenation on palladium catalyst at room tem perature the corresponding all-dis-2,4.6-trialkyltetrahydropyrans, whereas other reaction conditions lead to mixtures of tetrahydropyrans and hydrogenolyzed products

Catalytic hydrogenation and simultaneous isomerisation of 1- and 2-hexene and of three unsaturated alcohols was studied under normal conditions on a palladium catalyst. The effect of solvents and of substrate structure on the course of this reaction is reported. The structure of the starting compound was found to have dominant effect on the selectivity of hydrogenation while solvents influenced significantly the reaction rate and selectivity of competition reactions of 1-hexene and unsaturated alcohols.
