This study focuses on fabrication of a micro plastic part using custom made vertical injection molding machine. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) and micro mechanical machining was used to fabricate micro shape cavity on aluminum mold. The mold was embedded with Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) window to observe the behavior of plastic melt flow during injection. The custom made vertical injection molding machine has capabilities to produce a micro plastic part. But, the filling behavior observation was contrast with MoldFlow analysis software. The flashing problem occurs at each molded micro part due to improper selection of injection molding parameter.

Abstract This paper presents a study of the characteristics of axial vibration of a screw in the filling process for a novel dynamic injection molding machine. By simplifying a generalized model of the injection screw, physical and mathematic models are established to describe the dynamic response of the axial vibration of a screw using the method of lumped-mass. The damping coefficient of the screw is calculated in the dynamic filling process. The amplitude-frequency characteristics are analyzed by the simulation and experimental test of polypropylene. The results show that the amplitude of a dynamic injection molding machine is not only is related to structure parameters of the screw and performance of the material, such as non-Newtonian index, but also depends on the processing parameters, such as vibration intensity and injection speed.

A new concept of microinjection molding module was designed and presented. The module was designed as a multi microinjection module, which is matched with a vertical injection molding machine (IMM) and can be applied to usual IMMs. A planetary gear pump was integrated in this module to complete the multi microinjection molding(MμIMM)。The module is fixed between the stationary platen and the mold of IMM. The plasticizing unit of the IMM provides the melt and initial pressure for the multi microinjection molding module. With this module, a usual IMM could be upgraded to a precise microinjection machine and has the capability of precise metering for the microinjection molding.

A planetary gear pump (PGP) was introduced to the differential injection molding. The system is matched with a vertical injection molding machine (IMM). The PGP is integrated in the stationary mold and is fixed between the stationary platen and the movable mold of IMM. The dynamic mesh technology in the software packages Fluent was applied to investigate the melt behavior. Characteristics of the PGP, such as pressure and injection volume, used for the DIM process were studied

This paper intends to configure a control system of the plastic injection molding machine using a Motion Controller. It narrates the wiring methods of the control system based on “PC + Motion Controller” architecture. Furthermore, it divides some functions by the language of C++ Builder. This work aims to produce a low cost and high efficient control system which has good expansibility and transplantation.

In order to reduce vehicle crash on highway, basalt fiber reinforced guardrail was developed in this study. The wave shaped framework was coated with thermoplastic acrylic resin, using injection molding machine. Tensile strengths of the samples were tested by a 3380Instron and the corresponding property of the composite was calculated on the basis of the composite mechanics. The results indicated that the basalt filament reinforced highway guardrail have the advantages of high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, relative low cost and so on.
