Positive correlation has been found between serum immunoglobulin G levels and blood pressure in untreated hypertensive patients. In the Okamoto spontaneously hypertensive rat, several functional indexes of the immune system are depressed. Selective interventions with the immune system result in antihypertensive effects or delay development of spontaneous hypertension.
