Indirect methods of measuring resistivity changes in thin metallic wires, which are due to the presence of lattice defects, are described. These methods are useful when the direct measurement of resistivity changes cannot be carried out, owing to the unsuitable dimensions of the specimen or owing to its nonuniform cross section. Also the size-effect correction of the excess resistivity is discussed, as it may be of some importance at low temperatures in a specimen of small diameter prepared from very pure metal. Some examples of measurement are given and the applicability and limits of indirect methods are discussed.
