AbstractImpacted lower second molars (ILM2) are rarely reported in the literature, but various studies have been done for its treatment. Apart from solely orthodontic approaches, different surgical management techniques were reported to have successful outcomes. Surgical intervention of ILM2 can help expose the tooth for further orthodontic purposes, simplifying complex treatment methods, and reducing treatment time. This review illustrates the comprehensive evaluation and updated methods of surgical uprighting, repositioning, and transplantation of ILM2 with future directions for better understanding and treatment planning in the clinical setting. The successful outcome of surgical intervention depends on case selection, root development of ILM2, careful surgical manipulation, and adherence to sound biological principles.

Abstract Acinetobacter group has been known as gram-negative, opportunistic, aerobic coccobacilli which exists on skin, mucus membranes and in the urinary tract with relatively low virulence. Some predisposing factors including underlying systemic diseases, using broad spectrum antibiotic, mechanical ventilation and etc. could pose the more sever involvement with Acinetobacter. In this study, we reported a patient with Acinetobacter corneal ulcer and a relatively comprehensive review literature about this rarely ocular involvement with this bacteria.

The anatomy of the skull base is complex and poses a daunting challenge to many radiologists and trainees. In addition to knowing major skull base passages, there are several underrecognized skull base canals, foramina, and fissures that are critical to avoid misdiagnosis, understand the spread of disease, and guide surgical management. A review of the current literature on these forgotten structures yielded numerous original articles and a few review articles, none of which were comprehensive. This article aimed to fill that void. We provide a comprehensive review of underrecognized skull base anatomic structures and their content and discuss their clinical implications.Learning Objective: Recognize uncommon skull base structures, their content, and their clinical implications

Purpose The purpose of this tutorial was to describe the surgical management of palate-related abnormalities associated with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Craniofacial differences in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome may include overt or occult clefting of the palate and/or lip along with oropharyngeal variances that may lead to velopharyngeal dysfunction. This chapter will describe these circumstances, including incidence, diagnosis, and indications for surgical intervention. Speech assessment and imaging of the velopharyngeal system will be discussed as it relates to preoperative evaluation and surgical decision making. Important for patients with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome is appropriate preoperative screening to assess for internal carotid artery positioning, cervical spine abnormalities, and obstructive sleep apnea. Timing of surgery as well as different techniques, common complications, and outcomes will also be discussed. Conclusion Management of velopharyngeal dysfunction in patients with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome is challenging and requires thoughtful preoperative assessment and planning as well as a careful surgical technique.

Purpose: Luria (1970) proposed the use of intersystemic reorganization to use an intact system to facilitate improvements in a damaged cognitive system. In this article, we review literature examining the effects of gesture as a modality to promote reorganization to improve verbal production in apraxia of speech and anomia. Methods: A gestural facilitation training paradigm is described and results of a recent systematic review of apraxia of speech treatment are reviewed. The interplay between apraxia of speech and anomia are considered in response to gestural facilitation training. Results & Conclusions: Gestural facilitation effects are strongest in individuals with moderate apraxia of speech. Several factors appear to mitigate the effects of gestural facilitation for verbal production, including severe apraxia of speech and semantic anomia. Severe limb apraxia, which often accompanies severe apraxia of speech, appears to be amenable to gestural treatment, providing improvements in gesture use for communication when verbal production gains are not evident.
