The question of the superluminal speed of information was stopped at crossroads in the last few years. According to one point of view, this speed must be limited to the light velocity in vacuum, whereas a different point of view is more open in this respect and, under specific conditions, this limit is considered surmountable. Very recently, a third approach (based on the hypothesis of a local broken Lorentz-invariance) was proposed and, if confirmed, would go beyond the controversy of the two points of view mentioned above. It is therefore worthwhile to recall attention to this problem, which is far from having a definite solution. The present paper reports some experimental results (similar to those of Ref. 1) which can contribute to these discussions, and also considers the fact that they seem to give some support to the aforesaid third approach, although revised in terms of decaying waves.

We report a non-monotonic and strongly temperature dependent magneto-resistance observed in clean quantum point contacts. At the same time the conductance of the point contact varies linearly with temperature. This unexpected behavior may be related to electron-electron interactions.

AbstractThe currents flowing in metal–CaF_2– n -Si and metal–SiO_2–CaF_2– n -Si structures with the same (about 1.5 nm) fluoride thickness are compared in the reverse-bias mode. It is revealed that the current in the case of a two-layer dielectric can be notably higher within a certain voltage range. Such unexpected behavior is associated with the coexistence of both electron and hole components of the current as well as with the configuration of the SiO_2–CaF_2 barrier through which tunneling occurs. The results of measurements and explanatory simulation data are presented.

Herein, we report a versatile approach for the endocyclic ring-opening of bicyclic vinylcyclopropanes triggered by Heck arylations. Key step for this transformation is a [1,3]-migratory shift of Pd allowing the ring expansion of cyclopropanated pyrroles, piperidines, furans as well as cyclopentadienes to grant access to the corresponding 1,2-dihydropyridines, 2<i>H</i>-pyrans, 2,3-dihydro-1<i>H</i>-azepines and 1,4-cyclohexadienes, respectively. Additionally, <i>gem</i>-disubstituted cyclopropanated furans showed unexpected behavior by giving diastereoselectively asymmetrically substituted dienes. Mechanistic studies and theoretical calculations point towards a facile [1,3]-migratory shift of Pd along the cyclopropane moiety, which can successfully compete with the usual termination step of a Heck reaction via a <i>syn</i>-b-hydride elimination.<br>

MSOrgm (Huang, 2009), SSOrgan, and LBSkeleton (Huang, 2011) were created to contain computation, aesthetic, and structural characteristics to employ physical kinetic motion to embody and communicate to people. MSOrgm raises its branches when it senses someone who is looking at it. MSOrgm was developed as a robot plant to interact with the viewer in a soothing way; it uses transformable module to build interconnected fabric and produce unexpected behavior. SSOrgan provides a novel tangible interaction, which generates color in response to touch. SSOrgan is an artificial skin system composed by dense individual sensing module; it creates the responsive behavior executed by its external contact and its internal computing mechanism. LBSkeleton explores a mutual interaction that happens between “the piper and the snake” ? through the change of the sound performance that should triggered by body movement reflectivity. LBSkeleton shows a kinetic structural system, which is engaged with the sensor networked framework and the origami tessellation module to perform a kind of growling behavior with sound. These works bring the specific type of modeling, controlling, and interacting on the designing of the kinetic creatures. The artworks are bringing novel user experiences with the biomimetic mechanism in a space.
