New therapies for onychomycosis continue to be developed, yet treatments are seldom directly compared in randomized controlled trials. The objective of this study was to compare the rates of mycological cure for oral and topical onychomycosis treatments using network meta-analysis. A systematic review of the literature on onychomycosis treatments published before March 25, 2013, was performed, and data were analyzed using network meta-analysis. Terbinafine, 250 mg, therapy was significantly superior to all treatments except itraconazole, 400 mg, pulse therapy; itraconazole, 200 mg, therapy was significantly superior to fluconazole and the topical treatments; and fluconazole, efinaconazole, ciclopirox, terbinafine nail solution, and amorolfine treatments were significantly superior to only placebo. These results support the superiority of 12-week continuous terbinafine, 250 mg, therapy and itraconazole, 400 mg, pulse therapy (1 week per month for 3 months) while suggesting the equivalence of topical therapies. These results reflect findings from the literature and treatment efficacy observed in clinical practice.

Background: Many patients who are considering total joint arthroplasty, including hip, knee, and shoulder replacement, are concerned with their likelihood of returning to golf postoperatively as well as the effect that surgery will have on their game. Purpose: To review the existing literature on patients who have undergone major joint arthroplasty (hip, knee, and shoulder), to examine the effects of surgery on performance in golf, and to provide surgeon recommendations as related to participation in golf after surgery. A brief review of the history and biomechanics of the golf swing is also provided. Study Design: Systematic review. Methods: We performed a systematic review of the literature in the online Medline database, evaluating articles that contained the terms “golf” and “arthroplasty.” Additionally, a web-based search evaluating clinical practice recommendations after joint arthroplasty was performed. The research was reviewed, and objective and anecdotal guidelines were formulated. Results: Total joint arthroplasty provided an improvement in pain during golfing activity, and most patients were able to return to sport with variable improvements in sport-specific outcomes. Conclusion: In counseling patients regarding the return to golf after joint arthroplasty, it is our opinion, on the basis of our experience and those reported from others in the literature, that golfers undergoing total hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty can safely return to sport.

The purpose of this systematic review of the literature is to detail the main physical, chemical, biological, operational, and other significant properties of bioceramic materials used in endodontic practice ю Фccording to the studied literature, we can say that bioceramic endodontic materials have satisfactory performance properties, are characterized by antimicrobial action and alkaline pH, have optimal biocompatibility and bioactivity, which indicates the feasibility of their use in the clinical practice of a dentist-endodontist.

The aim of this review article is to determine the positive and negative qualities and properties of restoration structures based on fiber posts. After endodontic treatment, it is necessary to strengthen the remaining tissues, since there is an irreversible decrease in the strength characteristics of the tooth.Materials and methods.Produced a systematic review of the literature in the electronic databases Google Scholar and Pubmed. Articles based on the method of using fiberglass posts in clinical practice, analysis of methods for modifying the adhesive preparation of the dentin surface and the post itself, as well as publications related to the discussion of factors that led to the success/failure of the treatment are considered were included.Results. 45 articles were reviewed in the course of information collection. As a result of the submitted articles analysis according to the exclusion criteria, the number of included studies has become 39.Conclusions. Based on the literature studied, the use of structures based on fiber posts is an acceptable method ofpost-endodontic restoration of teeth. But, like any medical manipulation, it has its limitations and side effects.

AbstractObjectives:This study aimed to undertake a systematic review of the literature about pre-operative counselling for laryngectomy patients, identify its practice and patient and (where possible) carer perceptions. Methods:A search strategy was formulated using a concept map and a Population, Intervention, Comparative Interaction and Outcomes (‘PICO’) schema. All publications from 1975 to 2015 reporting pre-operative counselling of laryngectomy patients were included. Papers were retrieved and critiqued, and those included were assigned a level of evidence (according to the Joanna Briggs Institute schema). Results:Of the 56 papers retrieved, 21 were included in the review. The literature is limited: studies demonstrate bias and are of poor methodological quality. There are clear, persistent reports by patients and carers of shortfalls in clinical practice. Conclusion:Studies on pre-operative counselling for laryngectomees are flawed in design and represent weak levels of evidence. Pre-operative counselling has not been operationalised, resulting in differing paradigms being examined. Aggregation of data and/or results is not possible and the veracity of many studies is questioned.
