Narrow-band Cs2SiF6:Mn4+ phosphors with high external quantum efficiency were synthesized by a low-temperature co-precipitation approach. Moreover, the water-resistance stability of the phosphors was significantly improved by a facile surface passivation strategy.

Acrylate modified waterborne polyurethane (PUA) emulsion was prepared by means of core-shell polymerization processes. The structures and properties of emulsions were characterized by FTIR, TEM and DSC. The effects of polymerization temperature, the type and amount of initiator and the acrylic amount on the properties of emulsions were investigated. The experimental results showed that the emulsions prepared were core-shell composite, when the polymerization temperature was 70~75 °C, using oil-soluble initiator azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), and the percentage of AIBN was 2.0%~ 2.5%, the properties of the emulsion can be better, and the water resistance, stability and mechanical properties of the PUA films were improved increasingly.

Polyacrylate latexes made from non-polymerizable emulsifiers and their inks typically suffer from poor ethanol resistance stability and low adhesion on biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and polyethylene (PE) films. In this contribution, a composite emulsifier system containing a polymerizable anionic and a polymerizable non-ionic emulsifier was used to synthesize core-shell polyacrylate latexes. Additionally, a control latex was also prepared using a traditional emulsifier TX-30 to replace the polymerizable non-ionice mulsifier in the above composite emulsifiers. The effect of the polymerizable emulsifier on ethanol resistance, Ca 2+ resistance stability, and adhesion on PE and BOPP films of the latexes and the inks, and water resistance of the latex films and ink films were studied. The results show that, when compared with the control latex, the one made from double polymerizable compound emulsifier system and its ink demonstrates better ethanol resistance, higher stability of calcium ions and higher adhesion on BOPP and PE. When the ratio of anionic emulsifier to non-ionic emulsifier is 1.5/1 and the total dosage is 2.5 wt%, the latex showed the best comprehensive performance. The calcium ion resistance stability of the latex increased from 5% of the control latex to 25%. Accordingly, the adhesion of yellow ink on BOPP film increased from 92% of the ink based on the control latex to 99% and increased from 99% to 100% on PE film. The adhesion of blue ink on BOPP film increased from 92% to 99%, and from 99% to 100% on PE film. These results indicate that the fully polymerizable emulsifiers can effectively improve the properties of latex.

A lens coupled CCD camera showing single electron sensitivity has been built for TEM applications. The design is illustrated in Fig. 1. The bottom flange of a JEM-4000EX microscope is replaced by a special flange which carries a large rectangular leaded glass window, 22 mm thick. A 20 μm thick layer of red phosphor is coated on the window, and the entire window is sputter-coated with a thin layer of Au/Pt. A two-lens relay system is used to provide efficient coupling between the image on the phosphor scintillator and the CCD imager. An f1.0 lens (Goerz optical) with front focal length 71.6 mm is used as the collector. A mirror prism, of the Amici type, is used to "bend" the optical path by 90° to prevent X-rays which may penetrate the leaded glass from hitting the CCD detector. Images may be relayed directly to the camera (1:1) or demagnified by a factor of up to 3:1 by moving the lens assembly.
