Modeling and simulation are indispensable when dealing with complex engineering systems. This study deals with intelligent techniques modeling for linear response of suspension arm. The finite element analysis and Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) technique is used to predict the response of suspension arm. The linear static analysis was performed utilizing the finite element analysis code. The neural network model has 3 inputs representing the load, mesh size and material while 4 output representing the maximum displacement, maximum Principal stress, von Mises and Tresca. Finally, regression analysis between finite element results and values predicted by the neural network model was made. It can be seen that the RBFNN proposed approach was found to be highly effective with least error in identification of stress-displacement of suspension arm. Simulated results show that RBF can be very successively used for reduction of the effort and time required to predict the stress-displacement response of suspension arm as FE methods usually deal with only a single problem for each run.

The reinforcement rib design is one of the key parts in entire bottle design. This paper presents the rib performance prediction system based on the BP algorithm and the finite element analysis, which adopts the finite element analysis results as its learning samples, sets up the rib performance prediction system with BP artificial neural network. The results show that the artificial neural network plays an important role in rib performance prediction; meanwhile it can guide the bottle design in practical terms.

The most prominent effect of the weakest link theory, which is used to derive the Weibull statistics of ceramic strength, is the size effect. In this study, we analyze the size effect on ceramic strength using the finite element analysis (FEA) methodology previously proposed by the authors. In the FEA methodology, the data of the microstructure distribution (i.e., relative density, size, and aspect ratio of the pore and the grain size) are considered as input parameters of a continuum damage model via a fracture mechanical model. Specifically, we examine five sizes of rectangular specimens under three types of loading conditions. Then, we simulate the fracture stresses of sets of 30 specimens under each size and loading condition and obtain the relationship between the scale parameter and effective volume using the Weibull distribution. The results suggest that the proposed FEA methodology can be applied to the analysis of the fracture probability of ceramics, including the size effect.

In view of the significant role of material science in industrial production, the analysis and research on mechanical properties of materials and parts are of great significance to equipment production and machining. This paper, based on the finite element analysis of ANSYS software, will carry out the exploration and research on characteristics of material fatigue damage within mechanical materials and parts in a degree. Then, the general laws of material fatigue properties will be concluded from theoretical analysis, drawing of curve and equal-life curve as well as some comparisons between materials and parts. Finally, the correctness will be tested with the help of ANSYS software, which is an excellent finite element analysis software with abilities of modeling and simulation. Meanwhile, the whole process can provide somewhat valuable references and citations for practical applications, teachings, researches and academic conferences on material fatigue damage theory.

The finite element analysis fully coupled fatigue damage evolution is implemented on the user subroutine UMAT of the finite element software ABAQUS. The fully coupled method developed with damage mechanics and the finite element analysis is performed on calculation of fatigue damage accumulation of the critical welded member in the Tsing Ma Bridge. The calculated result shows that the fatigue damage in the critical welded member is accumulated in the region of toe of welding. The value of faitgue life calculated by the fully coupled method is smaller than that by the uncoupled method, which suggests that there exists interaction between the fatigue damage evolution and the structural response. The linear Miner’s Law is widely used however conservative for the evaluation of fatigue life of bridge on service. The above results provide feasible method for accurate evaluation of fatigue damage in bridge components based on the hot spot stress analysis and the damage mechanics theory.

Several approaches have been used in the past to predict fatigue crack growth rates in T-joints of the offshore structures, but there are relatively few cases of applying structural health monitoring during the non-destructive testing of jacket platforms. This paper presents an experimental method based on the sensing of the piezoelectric sensors and finite element analysis method for studying the fatigue cracks in the offshore steel jacket structure. Three types of joints are selected in the current research work: T-type plate, T-type tube-plate, and T-type tube joints. The finite element analysis model established in the current study computes and analyzes the high stress and high strain regions in the T-type joints. The fatigue damage in the T-type joints was successfully detected by utilizing both the finite element analysis and experimental methods. The results showed that fatigue cracks of the three types of joints are prone to appear at the weld toe and spread in the welding direction. The fatigue damage location of T-type plate and T-type tube-plate joints is more concentrated in the upper weld toe area, and the fatigue damage location of the T-type tube joint is closer to the lower weld toe area.

Investigating Fatigue is one the most important factors in designing most mechanical structure. The reason is that, in many cases, the specimens of the structure break down without any warning or signal. Nano and micron’s Coatings are finding more and more applications in industry such as aerospace, automotive, and naval industries. The present article has a purpose. Firstly, it intends to explore the influence of four industrial coatings, namely, hardened chromium, embellished chromium, hardened nickel, and warm galvanizing, all of which have the thickness value at micron levels on fatigue specimens. Moreover, it aims to find the most convenient coating. To achieve these purposes, the abovementioned coatings with the thickness of 13 & 19 were coated on standard specimens who were made of CK45 steel under the same conditions. Then, the S-N curve of each sample was attained empirically according to the standard fatigue testing. Specimens are simulated in the finite element analysis according to experimental conditions and then S-N curve of each sample was attained. Finally, comparing the S-N curves, the most appropriate coating is introduced for the delineated conditions and based fatigue results may be predicted damage of coating.
