Double skin composite (DSC) construction consists of a layer of a plain concrete, sandwiched between two layers of relatively thin steel plate, connected to the concrete by welded stud shear connectors. This construction acts in a similar way to doubly reinforced concrete elements but the flexibility of connection between the steel plates and concrete gives rise to interface slip and additional overall element deflection. This results in a strong and efficient structure with certain potential advantages over conventional forms of construction. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the behavior of simply supported single span DSC beams, assuming both full and partial interaction. The partial interaction analysis takes into account the flexibility of connection on both tension and compression faces. The partial interaction analysis is extended to cover the influence of frictional forces between the concrete and external steel plates, at the supports and load points. The theoretical solutions based on partial interaction theory, assuming realistic material and shear connector properties and incorporating the influence of interface frictional forces between the concrete and external steel plates, at the supports and load points, are compared with the results of tests on DSC beams. It is concluded that the proposed method shows good correlation with real behavior and may be reliably used for the analysis of simply supported single span DSC beams.

When Perfobond Rib shear connectors are used as flexural materials in structures such as bridges, they show flexural shear behavior due to external force, rather than direct shear behavior. The aim of this study is thus to analyze the difference between both behaviors. First, we prepared a specimen to analyze direct shear behavior using Perfobond Rib shear connectors, analyzed the characteristics of behavior with a push-out test and proposed a formula of shear resistance assessment. Proposed formula shows a relatively good fit with less than 10% error. A flexural shear test was then conducted based on the result of the direct shear test. Based on the static flexural test it analyzed the flexural behavior and the flexural shear stress it calculated. Direct shear stress and EN 1994-1-1 to lead and be calculated, it compared the flexural shear stress and it analyzed in about the shear resistance stress which it follows in load direction. Finally, we compared both test results, and the comparison showed that the flexural shear stress is approximately 6% stronger than the direct shear stress.

This paper reports on part of an ongoing experimental program at The University of Adelaide on the flexural behavior of FRP-high-strength concrete (HSC)-steel double-skin tubular beams (DSTBs). The results from three circular DSTBs that were tested as simply supported beams in a four-point bending setup under monotonic loading are presented. The experimental study investigated the influences of the inner steel tube diameter and the use of mechanical connectors on the steel tube on the flexural behavior of DSTBs. The results indicate that DSTBs are capable of developing very high inelastic flexural deformations. However, the results also indicate that slip between the concrete and the steel tube of the DSTB can be relatively large, unless the bond between concrete and steel tube is enhanced through the use of mechanical connectors. It was also observed that the flexural behavior of DSTBs is influenced significantly by the diameter and thickness of the inner steel tube.

This paper reports on an experimental study on the flexural behavior of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)-concrete-steel double skin cantilever beams (referred to as DSTBs) that were tested under reversed cyclic loading. The beams were manufactured using a high-strength concrete (HSC) mix and they were 150 mm in diameter and 1.2 m in length. The main parameters of the experimental study included the size of the inner steel tube and the use of mechanical connectors in the form of steel rings welded on the inner steel tube. Test results indicate that DSTBs are capable of developing a highly ductile behavior under reversed cyclic lateral displacement excursions. It is found that the addition of mechanical connectors on the steel tube has no significant influence on the lateral displacement capacity of the test specimens, but they can eliminate the slippage between the concrete and inner steel tube. Examination of the test results has led to a number of significant conclusions on the influence of the beam parameters on the performance of DSTBs, which are discussed in the paper.

Based on twelve push-out specimens with different holes filling different materials,the paper compared and analyzed the capacity and the corresponding slip value of the stud shear connector.Meanwhile, tests were also conducted on three composite steel-FDPCP(Full-Depth Precast Concrete Panel) beams with different holes shape and degree of shear connection to investigate the characteistics of load-displacement,load-deflection,load-strain of the total cross section and monolithic action of the entire cross section in the paper. The results show that, as to the two different kinds of holes shape ,the strength of the stud shear connectors of square push-out specimens was huger than that of circular specimens with the same condition; the strength of stud shear connectors in steel-concrete composite structure was decided by the strength of concrete surrounding the shear in the holes, with increasing concrete strength, the strength of stud shear connectors improved greatly; the composite steel-FDPCP beams failed in bending,plane section was maintained in composite beams throughout the testing process.the composite steel-FDPCP beams have some merits :good bearing capacity, good anti-bend capability, fast pile-driving pace and perfect work behaviors as a whole;the ultimate flexural capacity of the composite steel-FDPCP beams with a full shear connection is close to that of a partial shear connection. The outputs of this study are very useful for further understanding of the characteristics of the composite steel-FDPCP beams,it is also expected that the results presented in this paper should be valuable for the design of the composite steel-FDPCP beams.
