A conforming point interpolation method (CPIM) is proposed based on the Galerkin formulation for 2D mechanics problems using triangular background cells. A technique for reconstructing the PIM shape functions is proposed to create a continuous displacement field over the whole problem domain, which guarantees the CPIM passing the standard patch test. We prove theoretically the existence and uniqueness of the CPIM solution, and conduct detailed analyses on the convergence rate; computational efficiency and band width of the stiffness matrix of CPIM. The CPIM does not introduce any additional degrees of freedoms compared to the linear FEM and original PIM; while convergence rate of quadratic CPIM is in between that of linear FEM and quadratic FEM which results in the high computational efficiency. Intensive numerical studies verify the properties of the CPIM.

The aim of the present study is to investigate thermo-mechanical buckling response of skew functionally graded laminated plates (FGLP) with initial geometric imperfections. The formulation has been performed using Reddy’s higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) with the [Formula: see text] continuous displacement field. A nine-noded isoparametric element has been employed to discretize the domain of the plate. Variational principle has been used to derive the governing differential equation of the problem. Several examples with various comparison and parametric studies have been shown to prove the efficiency and effectiveness of the present formulation. The numerical results have been highlighted with different system parameters and boundary conditions.

Dubai has managed to roar back from over-extension, severe debt, and some world humiliation. This furthered the zeal for the spectacular and a leadership role in regional construction, transportation, tourism and consumption. All kinds of affluent people, including well-off expats or foreign buyers, have got in on the speculation. A downside of hectic tearing down and building back is the continuous displacement of residents, destruction of ‘traditional’ neighborhoods, and an imposition of a fractured urban form. It also means a loss of history, including the modernist structures, albeit some very ordinary and non-descript, that bespeak actual lives as well as tastes and craft of the prior years. Dubai acts as showcase for the downside of turning urban environments into assets for generating rent.

Continuous Displacement Cluster Variation Method is employed to study binary phase equilibria on the two dimensional square lattice with Lennard-Jones type pair potentials. It is confirmed that the transition temperature decreases significantly as compared with the one obtained by conventional Cluster Variation Method. This is ascribed to the distribution of atomic pairs in a wide range of atomic distance, which enables the system to attain the lower free energy. The spatial distribution of atomic species around a Bravais lattice point is visualized. Although the average position of an atom is centred at the Bravais lattice point, the maximum pair probability is not necessarily attained for the pairs located at the neighboring Bravais lattice points. In addition to the real space information, k-space information are calculated in the present study. Among them, the diffuse intensity spectra due to short range ordering and atomic displacement are discussed.
