A mathematical model on linear wave propagation toward shore is chosen and corresponding software is built. The wave transformation outside and inside the surf zone is considered including the diffraction effect. The model is tested by laboratory and field data and gave reasonables results.

The dynamic stability of ships encountering large regular waves from astern is analyzed, with focus on delineating the specific conditions leading to the uncontrolled turn identified as broaching. The problem's formulation takes into account motions of the actively steered or controls-fixed vessel in surge-sway-yaw-roll with consideration of Froude-Krylov and diffraction wave excitation. Dynamical analysis of surf-riding is carried out for the general case of quartering waves, exploring the route periodic motions—surf riding, loss of stationary stability, turn, capsize. Steady-state and transient analysis is carried out in the system's multidimensional state-space in order to identify all existing limit sets and locate attracting domains. Broaching from periodic motions is also a part of the investigation.

Abstract In electron diffractive imaging, the phase image of a sample is reconstructed from its diffraction intensity through iterative calculations. The principle of this method is based on the Fourier transform relation between the real-space wave field transmitted by the sample and its Fraunhofer diffraction wave field. Since Gerchberg’s experimental work in 1972, various advancements have been achieved, which have substantially improved the quality of the reconstructed phase images and extended the applicable range of the method. In this review article, the principle of diffractive imaging, various experimental processes using electron beams and application to specific samples are explained in detail.
