The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT) questionnaire is a brief measure available in Spanish which needs to be validated for the Mexican population. Parents of children from (1) community with typical development (TD) and (2) psychiatric outpatient unit completed the CBCL/1.5–5 and the Mexican/MM-CHAT-version. The study sample consisted of 456 children (age M = 4.46, SD = 1.12), 74.34% TD children and 26.65% with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The MM-CHAT mean score for failed key items was higher for the ASD group compared with the TD group. Internal consistency for the Mexican/M-CHAT version was .76 for total score and .70 for the 6 critical items. Correlations between the MM-CHAT and the CBCL/1.5: PDD and Withdrawn subscales and with ADI-R dimensions: B non verbal) and A were high, and were moderate with ADI-R dimensions B1 (verbal) and C The failure rate of the MM-CHAT between the groups did not reproduce all the critical items found in other studies. Although the instrument has good psychometric properties and can be used for screening purposes in primary settings or busy specialized psychiatric clinics, these results support evidence for cultural differences in item responses, making it difficult to compare M-CHAT results internationally.

The study aimed to examine the attitudes of female students specializing in Autism Spectrum disorders towards voluntary work programs at the University of Jeddah. The sample consisted of 152 female students majoring in Autism Spectrum disorders in the Department of Special Education at the University of Jeddah. researcher used the Descriptive analytical survey method and a scale of (32) items. The validity and reliability of the instrument was verified. The results showed no statistically significant differences at the level of (α = 0.05) in the means of the attitudes of the students majoring Autism Spectrum disorders towards voluntary work programs at the University of Jeddah, based on the variable of the social status, the academic level, and the student’s social status at the level of the scale as a whole and at the level of its sub-dimensions. Among the most important recommendations are the establishment of special units for voluntary work in the College of Education for Girls and holding educational courses dealing with volunteering.

Background. Teacher’s perceptions of Self-efficacy (SE) have been suggested as an important factor in the successful inclusion of students with special educational needs. The purposes of this study were (a) to investigate the validity and reliability of the instrument of physical education teachers’ self-efficacy toward the inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (PESEISD-A), using a Lithuanian physical education (PE) teachers’ sample, and (b) to assess relationships between SE scale and subscales. Methods. The English version of the instrument was translated into Lithuanian using the back-translation technique. The participants were 368 PE teachers working in Lithuanian schools (152 males and 216 females), aged between 24 and 65 years (M = 47.09; SD = 9.06). The content and construct validity of the instrument were supported. Results. The results of the factor analysis indicated a one-factor solution for the scale’s SE. Cronbach’s alpha reliability of SE scale and all other subscales was high (α > .93). Test-retest correlation analysis showed a satisfactory coefficient. In this study, positive and significant relationships between SE scale, mastery experience, vicarious experience, social persuasion, physiological state, behaviour, and perceived challenges subscales were determined (p < .01). Conclusions. The Lithuanian version of the PESEISD-A appears to be a valid and reliable instrument, enabling future research on Lithuanian PE teachers.

This descriptive study evaluates the speech disfluencies of 8 verbal children between 3 and 5 years of age with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Speech samples were collected for each child during standardized interactions. Percentage and types of disfluencies observed during speech samples are discussed. Although they did not have a clinical diagnosis of stuttering, all of the young children with ASD in this study produced disfluencies. In addition to stuttering-like disfluencies and other typical disfluencies, the children with ASD also produced atypical disfluencies, which usually are not observed in children with typically developing speech or developmental stuttering.
