A novel supramolecular polymer material, OGV, based on long-alkyl-chained acylhydrazone was constructed. The OGV showed an ultrasensitive response for Hg2+ and Fe3+ in water by forming the metallogels HgG and FeG, which showed ultrasensitive detection and separation for CN− and H2PO4− in water, respectively.

This work reports the aggregation induced emission (AIE) behaviour of a coumarin-salicylidene Schiff base probe 3 which demonstrates ultrasensitive detection of aqueous Cu2+ ions in nanomolar range via a fluorescence “on–off” strategy.

We synthesize and develop 1,3-dihydro-2H-imidazo[4,5-b]phenazine-2-thione as a ratiometric chemosensor for recognition of Hg2+ in DMSO/H2O (v/v = 9:1) binary solution. We rationally introduce the phenazine imidazole group as fluorophore and the thione moiety as recognition site to bind Hg2+. Interestingly, the chemosensor shows ultrasensitive response for Hg2+ and the lowest limit of detection is 0.167 nM. In addition, it can also separate Hg2+ from aqueous solution with excellent ingestion capacity, and the adsorption ratio is up to 96%. Furthermore, ion test strips based on the chemosensor are fabricated to conveniently and efficiently detect Hg2+.

A novel approach for the ultrasensitive detection and separation of F− has been developed. F− could induce a tripodal naphthalimide sensor (TNA) to carry out reversible supramolecular polymerization and lead to strong AIEE.

We demonstrate a novel strategy to synthesize highly stable and luminescent mercaptoimidazole-capped copper nanoclusters (CuNCs). Simple modification of substituents on the mercaptoimidazole ligand dictates the self-assembly and photophysical properties of the clusters.
