Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) was prepared in three types of aqueous solutions with various applied voltage. The mechanical property of AAO prepared in different electrolyte was investigated and hardness was increased on account of the increase of the thickness between pores. The mechanical property and microstructure change of AAO prepared in oxalic acid at 40V was investigated by heat treatment. AAO prepared in oxalic acid at 40V was transformed from amorphous to crystalline phase by heat treatment above 800oC and hardness was increased about 2.6 times with increase of heat treatment temperature.

This paper discussed fabrication of TiO2 and BaTiO3 nanotubes by sol-gel method and used anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) as template. The mechanical properties of TiO2 or BaTiO3 NTs are not great, so a longer tube can crack easily, leading to the peeling off of the NTs film from the Ti substrate. Therefore, we propose to use AAO as a template, followed by deposition of TiO2 and BaTiO3 NT inside AAO to make a working electrode for further electronic devices.

When thickness of a membrane reduces its mechanical properties go down but thinner the membrane better the performance of the membrane in terms of filtration. In this research we fabricated a fluid filtration system with a very thin anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane. The system consists of microchannels at one side of membrane while other side is flat. For both sides inlet and outlet are given. The system can facilitate two types of fluid to flow at two sides of membrane for filtration. The membrane thickness achieved was 4 μm. The average pore diameter was 50 nm. The nanopores inside the membrane are highly straight and perpendicular to the surface. The fabricated channel and wall width was 200 µm and 100 µm successively. The pillars in between microchannels hold the membrane which is termed as partial freestanding alumina (PFA) and thereby retain desired mechanical properties of the membrane. The system was tested for diffusion between DI water and salted water. The DI water was flowed in channels and salted water on other side of membrane. The pH value of DI water changed after flow. Due to channel walls, AAO membrane fabricated in this system can tolerate more pressure which leads it to be used for convective flow by applying higher pressure gradient.

In this paper a simple method is used for fabrication of vertically aligned carbon nanotube (VACNT) within the cylindrical pores anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) substrate. Electronic and mechanical properties of VACNT have been obtained after removing AAO substrate. Vertically aligned carbon nanotube shows very interesting electromechanical properties which can be used in CNT-based sensors to detect chemical analytical or physical properties such as temperature orpressure.
