The article is based on recognized human rights standards, using concrete examples in real life, thus showing the actual picture of human rights in Vietnam today. Vietnam is willing to cooperate and strives to realize the values in the Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations in 1948 and other international conventions on human rights. It tries to answer questions about human rights in Vietnam: Why is the human rights situation in the country making much progress, although the US still regularly puts Vietnam on the list of countries particularly concerned about human rights? Most importantly, this colorful picture will delve into human rights values that Vietnamese people are enjoying. With vivid images, the article also points out the difficulties that Vietnamese people are going through to join the international community to be more aware of the human rights issues that they actively address.

As a part of a larger study of Louisiana's political families from statehood to the present, this article seeks to demonstrate that the family influence on political recruitment is not just an historical phenomenon but a current reality. Over one-fourth of 785 state and parish officials in office in 1983 were found to have at least one officeholding relative. One-half of these 209 leaders had two or more kinsmen in office at some time, and almost one-third “inherited” their position from a relative. The article analyzes the structure of these families (size, generations, kinship connections), successions, and kinship networks. The last topic, networks, delineates the connections between and among families with 1983 officials and other families whose political experience occurred before 1983. The largest of the networks includes twenty-two families with 107 officials from several states. A principal conclusion is that the family continues to exert considerable influence on its members' decision to enter the political arena. Evidence is presented indicating that Louisiana is not unique in this regard.

Transnationalism is a current reality as globalisation has accelerated by the never before experienced boost in the development of technology, transport and telecommunications. The modern era is also characterised by migrations - voluntary and involuntary, but most of today’s transmigrants do not live the exilic lives once lived by migrants, longing for their homeland. Instead, they live in an in-between space – the host country and the homeland, where the mixing of cultures takes place. Although these zones have often been idolized in the recent literature, the lives of many transmigrants are characterised by feelings of loss, displacement and trauma. The present article attempts to map Bosnian-American author Aleksandar Hemon as a transnational diasporic writer by tracing the features of transnationalism in his life and his novel The Making of Zombie Wars. It will also position that several of the migrant characters in the novel are hybrid identities, battling the consequences of displacement, trauma and mobility, following the ideas of Homi Bhabha and Jopi Nyman. It will explore the processes as they occur in spaces in-between.

Ten years have gone since Competitive Intelligence was regarded as being in its initial phase in Brazil, according to the statistics from the application of the internationally accepted program for the sector. This article talks about the evolution of the Brazilian scenario in this field of activity and about aspects of the current reality which entitles us to outline the evolution of the practice of intelligence, as well as what is thought to be its application and results. The work focused mainly on three aspects: The evolution of the concept of Competitive/Economic Intelligence in the Southeast region of Brazil; the biggest recurring deficiencies in CI projects and obstacles to their execution; and the major recurring skills highlighted in the projects. The article shows culture as an influence that favors the aspects that affect the desires and decisions of companies located in Brazil. Conclusions point to an evolutionary scenario regarding the volume of project results in big companies and the presence of fragmented discourses in a market eager for a bigger volume of closed deals, less worried about delivery depth and quality.

The article considers three potential processes involving the political action or inaction of West Indian and Asian immigrant workers in Britain. Drawing upon both documentary sources and the authors own research it argues that political organization across ethnic minority lines is neither a current reality nor a short-term possibility. In contrast, while members of ethnic minorities engage in class-based forms of political action, they sometimes organize along distinct ethnic lines due to the racial exclusion of white British workers in the industrial sphere. Furthermore, it is likely that such action will be used to bring pressure to bear on the formal sphere of politics when accommodation of ethnic interests is inadequate or fails to occur.

The optic axis of an electron microscope objective lens is usually assumed to be straight and co-linear with the mechanical center. No reason exists to assume such perfection and, indeed, simple reasoning suggests that it is a complicated curve. A current centered objective lens with a non-linear optic axis when used in conjunction with other lenses, leads to serious image errors if the nature of the specimen is such as to produce intense inelastic scattering.
