This study aims to estimate and explore the experience of introducing renewable energy use in the context of the world’s smart cities. In this regard, the study points out that the use of green energy is an important part of sustainable development. Environmental problems are a matter of global concern. Hence sustainable development is one of the approaches to end the harmful anthropogenic impact. The work includes quantitative assessment methods, for example, statistics, quantitative analysis, analogy, and synthesis. As a result, the analysis confirms that the effective development of a smart green city is impossible without the introduction of several renewable energy sources, the integrated use of which will reduce the likelihood of problems with the city’s energy supply. Likewise, the outcome accentuates that the desire to fully switch to renewable energy sources (RES) can be accompanied by several problems as the creation of RES technologies does not always take the risk of abnormal situations into account. In conclusion, the research findings are recommended to be taken into consideration by researchers in the field of smart and sustainable cities development, as well as urbanists and economists for designing future smart green cities based on renewable energy sources.

The energy sector is constantly changing. Electromobility, improvement of energy efficiency, smart cities these are just some of the challenges that the present power industry is facing. The main goal for the power industry is to ensure the energy security of its customers, to develop low-community technologies which are mainly based on renewable energy sources and local raw materials. The transition from a centralized energy sector based mainly on conventional power plants to a distributed energy sector requires constant control and management of the generation and demand for energy. One of the solution existing since 2016 are energy clusters. The concept of their functioning is based on the civil-law agreement of locally operating entities that produce, sell, store and consume electricity, heat and cold. The main purpose of introducing energy clusters is the development of distributed energy. Energy clusters ensure the improvement of local energy security with relatively low outlays and low environmental impact. Technological development and installations based on renewable energy sources make energy clusters a beneficial and cost-effective solution for local energy sector. The article presents the idea of energy clusters functioning, and describes the current status of development. It also includes the hybrid systems characteristics of RES systems as an effective source of energy. The conclusion includes the legitimacy of the energy cluster development based on RES installations.

The earth faces huge environmental changes and climate problems leading to catastrophic failure of our sources and surroundings. Besides, the world suffers from urban and industrial wastes and that is a double whammy which disrupts the ecological maintenance. Energy is a big issue for achieving ecological welfare and sustainability. Carbon energy sources that destruct the living standards of cities act against global ecology damaging health. However, the renewable energy sources are healtiful, clean and cheap. Environment and cities where we live can only be protected with creative eco-energy. Nowadays, the future of global ecology is to create a world with zero-carbon cities. Turkey, as a developing country finally solved the energy problem and implemented policies to improve renewables and energy efficiency. Although Turkey has a huge potential of renewable energy resources, the progress of the energy market is still slow that it's not widespread and transitioned to urban planning, yet.

The main principles of the smart city concept rely on modern, environmentally friendly technologies. One manifestation of the smart city concept is investments in renewable energy sources (RES), which are currently a popular direction in urban transformation. It makes sense, therefore, to analyse how Polish cities are coping with this challenge and whether they are including the implementation of RES facilities in their development strategies. The aim of the article is to analyze and assess the level at which renewable energy facilities are being implemented or developed in the urban space of cities in Poland as a pillar of the implementation of the smart city concept. This goal is realized on two levels: the theoretical (analysis of strategic documents) and the practical (analysis of the capacity of RES installations, questionnaire studies). The study shows that renewable energy installations are an important part of the development strategies of Polish cities, and especially of those that aspire to be termed “smart cities”. Moreover, it is shown that the predominant RES facilities are those based on solar energy.

A new class of post-industrial technologies is gradually being introduced into various sectors of the economy. However, the lack of application experience may hinder their spread. The article examines two issues of post-industrial technologies. Firstly, there is a need to identify promising (advanced) production technologies that are fundamentally different from traditional industrial technologies. Secondly, the study aims to assess the current stage of the development and application of these technologies on the example of the North-West of Russia. This assessment may be of interest for understanding the advantages of the technologies’ use and the possibility of their distribution. The article describes the application of post-industrial technologies, giving examples of their use for attracting business and expanding the functions and responsibilities of regional authorities. Based on the structural method, post-industrial technologies were divided into various types: renewable energy sources, nanotechnologies, and information and communication technologies (ICTs). The article shows their distribution across the regions of the North- West of Russia, companies that implement post-industrial technologies and their products. The paper reveals the characteristics and definition of post-industrial technologies, as well as the specificity of their application in regions. In the North-West of Russia, regions with large resources in wind and water as well as partly solar energy sectors use renewable energy sources applying hybrid power systems (wind/solar, wind/solar/diesel) to supply power to remote small villages without centralised electricity systems. Nanotechnology are applied in the production of composite materials, metal-ceramic materials, nanoelectronics, laser cladding. Biotechnologies are used for processing animal waste and resources of the White Sea for the production of compound fertilisers, fast-degradable polymers, and biocomposites. Digital technologies are applied for the development of smart cities, smart power system, digital shipyard, robotics with artificial intelligence elements. The paper identifies the field of business application of post- industrial technologies, highlighting the increasing localisation and individualisation of production due to such technologies. The research results can be used for the elaboration of socio-economic development strategies, recommendations for business structures in the implementation of post-industrial technologies. Further studies should focus on the economic analysis of postindustrial technologies application, their convergence in production processes.
