Pion beams are perfect tools to probe resonance excitations at a fixed energy, thus properties of baryonic resonances and their coupling channels can be studied. The HADES Collaboration performed a systematic scan around the second resonance region at four different pion beam momenta 0.656, 0.69, 0.748 and 0.8 GeV/c in π− p reaction. The role of the N(1520) resonance in conjunction with the intermediate ρ-meson production has been studied in the framework of a partial wave analysis. Preliminary results on exclusive channels with one pion (π− p) and two pions (nπ+π− and pπ−π0) in the final state are presented.

We study the production of the doubly strange Ξ baryon in subthreshold p + A collisions using a BUU type transport model. We propose a new mechanism for Ξ creation in a two-step process via hyperon-nucleon collisions. We study the influence of the anisotropy of hyperon production in N + N collisions on the Ξ multiplicity. Applying reasonable assumptions on the unknown elementary cross sections, we are able to reconstruct the Ξ yield observed by the HADES collaboration (GSI, Darmstadt) in subthreshold p+Nb collisions.

The HADES collaboration studied dielectron production in C + C , p + p , and d + p reactions, with the main goal to investigate properties of vectors mesons through their dielectron decay. Production of e+e- pairs in Ar + KCl collisions at a beam energy of 1.756 A GeV was measured recently by the collaboration and preliminary results of the experimental data analysis will be reported. Pair spectra will be compared with a prediction of a thermal model based on the Monte Carlo event generator Pluto.

In this work we investigate the possible interference effects between the Λ(1405) and the non-resonant final state in p+p reactions at 3.5 GeV beam kinetic energy measured by the HADES collaboration. The two poles nature of the Λ(1405), which is supported by most of the theoretical models, are parametrized within a simplified phenomenological model with Breit-Wigner functions to evaluate the interference effects. The model is adjusted such as to be in accordance with the theoretical prediction for the Λ(1405) in p+p collisions.
