China shale oil, which is preserved in lacustrine shale with strong heterogeneity and relatively low maturity, has been a research hotspot of unconventional resources. However, controlling factors of shale oil enrichment and resource potential evaluation restricted efficient exploration and development of lacustrine shale oil. On the basis of well logging data, TOC content, Rock-Eval pyrolysis values, thermal maturity, 100 oil saturation data, and pressure coefficient, the core observation, X-ray diffraction analysis, physical property analysis, scanning electron microscopy, CT scan, well logging interpretation, and volumetric genesis method depending on three-dimensional geological modeling were used to determine enrichment factors and evaluate the resource potential of Qingshankou Formation shale oil in the Southern Songliao Basin. Shale oil was mainly enriched in the semideep and deep lake shale of K2qn1, with the high capacity of hydrocarbon generation and favorable petrological and mineralogical characteristics, pore space characteristics, and physical properties in the low structural part of the Southern Songliao Basin. The three-dimensional geological resource model of Qingshankou Formation lacustrine shale oil was determined by the key parameters (Ro, TOC, and S 1 ) of shale oil in the favorable zone of the Southern Songliao Basin, northeast China. The geological resource of shale oil, which was calculated by two grid computing methods ( F 1 and F 2 ), was, respectively, 1.713 × 10 12   kg and 1.654 × 10 12   kg . The great shale oil resource indicates a promising future in the exploration and development of Qingshankou Formation shale oil of the Southern Songliao Basin.

Lithofacies are the fundamental geological units for shale oil and gas exploration and development, and soluble organic matter (SOM) is most similar to crude oil in composition. Both aspects attract our attention in the interpretation of SOM in different lithofacies, which can provide direct evidence to predict shale oil “sweet spots”. Here, twenty-five shale samples were collected from the Eocene Shahejie Formation in the Dongying Sag and were subjected to X-ray diffraction, Rock-Eval pyrolysis, and SOM characterization. Comparison of the SOM contents in shales with different lithofacies revealed remarkable differences: 1) The contents of SOM, saturates and total hydrocarbons (THC) showed the order of detrital massive mudstone < homogenous massive mudstone < wide laminated shale < discontinuous laminated shale < fine laminated shale < gypsum-bearing mudstone, and the SOM content was controlled by lithofacies through differences in both OM and minerals. 2) The SOM in detrital and homogenous massive mudstones was mainly composed of saturates and resins. Saturates were the main component in wide and fine laminated shales. The SOM in discontinuous laminated shale was mainly composed of saturates and aromatics. The SOM in gypsum-bearing mudstone was mainly composed of saturates, and the percentage of asphaltenes was quite high. Based on the evaluation parameters of high-quality lithofacies in terms of abundance (i.e., SOM, THC or saturate contents) and quality (i.e., quality index and asphaltene percentage), the fine, wide and discontinuous laminated shales were regarded as relatively favorable lithofacies. Based on the lithofacies combination, the fine, wide and discontinuous laminated shales in Es3x and Es4ss (upper section of Es4s) in the Dongying Sag were interpreted as “sweet spots” for shale oil exploration and development. Thus, it is of great significance to study the characteristics of SOM in shale with different lithofacies for shale oil exploration and development.

Internationally the research of low permeability oil reservoir is a difficult point in the exploration and development of oil and gas field. This thesis, based on the research methods of low permeability reservoirs at home and abroad, summaries several major problems encountered in the process of low permeability oil exploration and development under the current technical conditions as well as the corresponding, but more effective technical measures that need to be constantly improved. And that exploration and development of low permeability of the reservoir will be the main battle field for some time in the future of oil exploration and development.
