Indonesia is known as a rich natural resources country, but at the same time has a problem of water shortage, soil degradation, pollution, agriculture and forest production, biodiversity conservation, and mineral and energy sustainability. The national natural resources management planning alignment with SDGs programme, particularly the water resources management,  afforestation programme,  a guide for sustainable management of Indonesia’s biodiversity, government and non-government organizations participant in conservation practice, exploring alternative energy sources to reduce dependence on oil, mainstreaming of SDGs into National Development agenda, National Action Plan, and  SDGs program for Sub-national level. This program was participated by all stakeholders included government, civil society organizations, philanthropy and business society, academics as well as experts. This literature review paper will discuss about the natural resources management to deliver sustainable development goals programme in Indonesian, with specific and focus topics for water and pollution, soil, land product  (agriculture, forest and biological resources), mineral and energy. The objective of this paper was to describe  the alignment of the natural resources management planning and SDGs programme as evaluation to improve their implementation in Indonesia. Though the government has already implemented SDGs program but innovative strategic need to be developed.Indonesia dikenal sebagai negara yang kaya sumberdaya alam, tetapi pada saat yang sama menghadapi masalah kelangkaan air, degradasi lahan, polusi, produksi pertanian dan kehutanan, konservasi keanekaragaman hayati, keberlangsungan mineral dan energi. Rencana pengelolaan sumberdaya alam nasional sejalan dengan program SDGs,  khususnya terkait pengelolaan air, program perhutanian, pengelolaan keanekaragaman hayati secara berkelanjutan, pemerintah dan para pihak yang berpartisipasi dalam praktek konservasi, eksplorasi energi alternatif untuk mengurangi ketergantungan pada minyak bumi, dan pengarus-utamakaan program SDGs ke dalam agenda pembangunan nasional, rencana aksi nasional, dan program di tingkat wilayah. Program ini diikuti oleh seluruh para pihak, termasuk pemerintah, organisasi masyarakat sipil, masyarakat bisnis dan filantropi, kaum akademisi dan para ahli. Studi Pustaka ini akan membahas tentang pengelolaan sumberdaya alam untuk mencapai program pembangunan berkelanjutan di Indonesia, khususnya tentang masalah air, polusi, produsi lahan (meliputi pertanian, hutan, sumberdaya biologi), mineral dan energi. Tujuan penulisan naskah adalah untuk memberikan gambaran keterkaitan antara rencana pengelolaan sumberdaya alam dan pelaksanaan program pembangunan berkelanjutan, sebagai evaluasi untuk meningkatkan implementasinya di Indonesia. Meskipun pemerintah telah melaksanakan program SDGs, tetapi strategi yang inovatif perlu dikembangkan.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), are high on the agenda for most countries of the world. In its publication of the SDGs, the UN has provided the goals and target descriptions that, if implemented at a country level, would lead towards a sustainable future. The IAEG (InterAgency Expert Group of the SDGs) was tasked with disseminating indicators and methods to countries that can be used to gather data describing the global progress towards sustainability. However, 2030 Agenda leaves it to countries to adopt the targets with each government setting its own national targets guided by the global level of ambition but taking into account national circumstances. At present, guidance on how to go about this is scant but it is clear that the responsibility is with countries to implement and that it is actions at a country level that will determine the success of the SDGs. Reporting on SDGs by country takes on two forms: i) global reporting using prescribed indicator methods and data; ii) National Voluntary Reviews where a country reports on its own progress in more detail but is also able to present data that are more appropriate for the country. For the latter, countries need to be able to adapt the global indicators to fit national priorities and context, thus the global description of an indicator could be reduced to describe only what is relevant to the country. Countries may also, for the National Voluntary Review, use indicators that are unique to the country but nevertheless contribute to measurement of progress towards the global SDG target. Importantly, for those indicators that relate to the security of natural resources security (e.g., water) indicators, there are no prescribed numerical targets/standards or benchmarks. Rather countries will need to set their own benchmarks or standards against which performance can be evaluated. This paper presents a procedure that would enable a country to describe national targets with associated benchmarks that are appropriate for the country. The procedure builds on precedent set in other countries but in particular on a procedure developed for the setting of Resource Quality Objectives in South Africa. The procedure focusses on those SDG targets that are natural resource-security focused, for example, extent of water-related ecosystems (6.6), desertification (15.3) and so forth, because the selection of indicator methods and benchmarks is based on the location of natural resources, their use and present state and how they fit into national strategies.

Water resources are central to the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals, and should be viewed as a crosscutting connector - not a sector. The water community should do more to get outside its safety zone and work with all water-related sectors. The SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme is assisting countries to use water as a connector between their SDG targets.

In the face of the fast depletion of natural resources worldwide resulting from industrial and economic cannibalism, selfishness and marginalization are becoming more and more pronounced in a globalizing world. The phenomena of selfishness and marginalization are manifest in the introduction of stringent immigration laws by most industrialized countries in the North to ward off migrants from the less developed economies in the South; and also the reinforcement of existing laws by the latter to protect their citizens and natural resources in recent years. Issues of national identity, territorial integrity as against the centrality of humanity remain an Achilles heel toward the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As far as 1968, Ahmadou Kourouma, an Ivorian novelist, in his very first narrative text, “Les Soleils des Indépendances” later translated into English as The Suns of Independence, raised the tragic dilemma of national identity at the expense of ‘human identity’. In the absence of concrete steps to address the issues over the years, Liberia, Sierra Leone and La Côte d’Ivoire were engulfed in intestine civil strife over two decades later. The main causes of this strife are found in the irrational quest for self-identity in the name of nationality and ethnic superiority for greater access and control of “national” resources. This paper examines the upsurge of socioeconomic and political exclusion, and the potential threats they pose to the realization of the recently launched Sustainable Development Goals. It is done through a critical reading of Kourouma’s The Suns of Independence, Allah is not obliged and ‘Quand on refuse, on dit non’. The study is posited within the analytical framework of literary studies and sociocriticism

Linear economic models have led us to a point where our planet can no longer sustain itself and heal its natural resources. Thus, circular economy has provided us the opportunity to hope for increasing resource value, extending its life as a means to put waste back into the consumption chain. In emerging economies, circular economy-based business models are not as pertinent. However, in the past decade, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have provided a guideline for businesses, legislators, and academics. It has been witnessed that a few notable initiatives in the field of the circular economy have taken place in emerging economies which has led to achieving different SDGs to a certain extent. This chapter discusses the potential circular economy-based business models held in the attainment of different sustainable development goals.

Purpose – This paper is an editorial to JCHMSD's Volume 4 Issue 2 and its selection of papers. Design/methodology/approach – The paper presents some of the ongoing discussions at the international level on the establishment of new United Nations global objectives for development, known as the Sustainable Development Goals, which should guide progress in the world for the next 15 years. Two agendas for wise heritage management are discussed, one for the protection of nature and the other for better use of culture, which taken together could make a significant difference in stewarding the world's precious resources. Findings – While the previous Millennium Development Goals, established in 2000 as a set of eight goals with 19 targets, have been criticised as too broad, the current proposed Sustainable Development Goals, containing 17 goals and 169 targets to measure progress, are perhaps too many and too detailed and thereby risk failure of implementation. It also illustrates the ambition and the challenges of a pluralistic world with widely divergent priorities, reinforcing the idea of context-specificity of heritage conservation and resources management. Originality/value – This editorial further extends on the discussion that was started in the inaugural Editorial, of 2011, which stated that “the international debate is expected to intensify as regards a re-orientation of the concept of sustainability and to re-emphasise its meaning in clear and unambiguous terms” (JCHMSD, 1.1:9).
