Freeze-drying followed by heavy metal shadowing is a long established and straight forward approach to routinely study the structure of dehydrated macromolecules. Very thin specimens such as isolated membranes or single macromolecules are directly adsorbed on C-coated grids. After rapid freezing the grids are transferred into a suitable vacuum equipment for freeze-drying and heavy metal shadowing. To improve the resolution power of shadowing films we introduced shadowing at very low specimen temperature (−250°C). To routinely do that without the danger of contamination we developed in collaboration with Balzers an UHV (p≤10-9 mbar) machine (BAF500K, Fig.2). It should be mentioned here that at −250°C the specimen surface acts as effective cryopump for practically all impinging residual gas molecules from the residual gas atmosphere.Common high resolution shadowing films (Pt/C, Ta/W) have to be protected from alterations due to air contact by a relatively thick C-backing layer, when transferred via atmospheric conditions into the TEM. Such an additional C-coat contributes disturbingly to the contrast at high resolution.

AbstractWe describe a method of obtaining ultrafine boron carbide (B_13C_2) powder using the effect of a dc electric arc on a mixture of initial reactants containing carbon and boron. A peculiarity of the proposed method is that it can be implemented using arc discharge operating in open air without any vacuum equipment and protective inert gas atmosphere. X-ray diffraction data showed that the synthesized product in the general case contained three crystalline phases: boron carbide (B_13C_2), graphite (C), and boron oxide (B_2O_3). Electron-microscopic examination showed that the average size of boron carbide particles ranged from ~50 nm to ~2 μm.

Pool sanitation needs to be monitored and monitored against the physical environment that affects human health in order to prevent the occurrence of transmission and source of disease in the pool. The swimming pool business standard is set in the Minister of Tourism of Republic of Indonesia Regulation No. 16 of 2015. Based on SWOT analysis conducted by the researchers, the position of swimming pool X in Banyuwangi is in quadrant IV. The purpose of this research is to know the description of sanitation of swimming pool X in Banyuwangi. This research uses observational method which analyzed with descriptive. The time of the research on June 3, 2016 took place in the swimming pool X Banyuwangi. Observations were performed using a research instrument. The research instrument contains 5 variables ie place, building, swimming pool, supporting facilities and infrastructure facilities. Intrumen is prepared based on the Minister of Health Regulation No. 61 of 1991 that has been processed. The results showed the total value of place variables (3.45), building variables (3.6), pool variables (6.6), supporting facilities (6.0), and infrastructure (2.2) swimming pool X in Banyuwangi is in good condition with value 82,7% (21,85). Suggestions for pool manager X in Banyuwangi to separate chemical warehouse with First Aid Equipment (P3K) equipment and hygiene kits such as broom, waste shovel, sprinkler of swimming pool filtration, vacuum equipment and others.
