As the research basis of image processing and computer vision research, image quality evaluation (IQA) has been widely used in different visual task fields. As far as we know, limited efforts have been made to date to gather swimming pool image databases and benchmark reliable objective quality models, so far. To filled this gap, in this paper we reported a new database of underwater swimming pool images for the first time, which is composed of 1500 images and associated subjective ratings recorded by 16 inexperienced observers. In addition, we proposed a main target area extraction and multi-feature fusion image quality assessment (MM-IQA) for a swimming pool environment, which performs pixel-level fusion for multiple features of the image on the premise of highlighting important detection objects. Meanwhile, a variety of well-established full-reference (FR) quality evaluation methods and partial no-reference (NR) quality evaluation algorithms are selected to verify the database we created. Extensive experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to the most advanced image quality models in performance evaluation and the outcomes of subjective and objective quality assessment of most methods involved in the comparison have good correlation and consistency, which further indicating indicates that the establishment of a large-scale pool image quality assessment database is of wide applicability and importance.

As children’s actual aquatic skills are important for the prevention of drowning as well as their engagement in lifelong aquatic physical activity, researchers and practitioners should be able to assess this vital concept accurately and reliably. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the Actual Aquatic Skills Test (AAST), consisting of 17 different test items for the assessment of young children’s motor competence in the water. Six raters received a training and evaluation session on scoring the AAST, after which five of them assessed four test videos (of various children (n = 38) performing the test items) twice, with one to two weeks in between (i.e., test and re-test). Inter-rater and intra-rater reliability were determined per test video and for the different AAST test items across videos using Gwet’s Agreement Coefficient 2 (Gwet’s AC2). The Gwet’s AC2 for inter-rater reliability at the test varied from 0.414 to 1.000, indicating a moderate to perfect agreement between raters. For intra-rater reliability, it ranged from 0.628 to 1.000, demonstrating a good to perfect agreement between test and re-test scoring. In conclusion, the AAST is a promising tool to reliably assess young children’s actual aquatic skills in an indoor swimming pool.

Abstract Nature swimming pools are a sought-after alternative to conventional swimming pools. Their natural water purification system, without the need for chemicals, is beneficial to health and environmentally friendly. Designing such a nature swimming pool is a complex matter because it requires coordination of a number of effects, which can easily cause an imbalance in the entire system. This work uses the case study method to analyse the overall condition of three nature swimming pools in the South Moravian Region during the second half of the swimming pool operation season.

The study assessed unfavorable phenomena occurring in swimming pool water, including the occurrence of organic micropollutants in swimming pools and the transformation of these compounds during the swimming pool water treatment processes. The presence of three selected compounds was examined from the personal care products group (PCP) in pool water samples, collected in 2018 and 2019, from fifteen pools characterized using three different solutions of swimming pool water treatment systems. In addition, experimental studies on the effects of UV radiation and ozone on selected organic micropollutants, previously identified in swimming pools and the relationship between swimming pool water turbidity and the concentration of the selected PCP micropollutants, were carried out

Abstract Swimming pool intelligent assisted drowning detection is an important research content in the field of drowning rescue. A large number of scholars track drowning targets in real time through underwater intelligent monitoring system, and use it to build a reliable swimming pool intelligent assisted drowning detection model to reduce the risk of drowning. For the complex underwater environment of the swimming pool, the previous detection model has been difficult to adapt to the practical demand. In this regard, based on the summary of the previous swimming pool intelligent assisted drowning detection models and the computer feature pyramid networks, the feature stratification of the swimming pool intelligent assisted drowning detection image is completed, and then the final swimming pool intelligent assisted drowning detection results are obtained through the YOLO principle. After analysis, it is confirmed that the accuracy rate of swimming pool intelligent assisted drowning detection of this method is significantly improved, which can provide effective data theoretical guidance for swimming pool intelligent assisted drowning rescue and has significant practical advantages.

Considering the fact that water is a basic need of every living being, it is important to ensure its safety. In this work, the data on the presence of the opportunistic pathogen P. aeruginosa in drinking water (n = 4171) as well as in pool water (n = 5059) in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia in the five-year period (2016–2020) were analysed. In addition, the national criteria were compared with those of neighboring countries and worldwide. The proportion of P. aeruginosa-positive samples was similar for drinking water (3.9%) and pool water (4.6%). The prevalence of this bacterium was most pronounced in the warmer season. P. aeruginosa-positive drinking water samples were mostly collected during building commissioning, while pool samples were from entertainment and spa/hydromassage pools. Outdoor pools showed a higher percentage of positive samples than indoor pools, as well as the pools filled with freshwater rather than seawater. The highest P. aeruginosa load was found in rehabilitation pools. Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro are countries that have included P. aeruginosa in their national regulations as an indicator of the safety of water for human consumption as well as for bottled water, while Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have limited this requirement to bottled water only. In the case of swimming pool water, this parameter is mandatory in all countries considered in this study.
