Comparative morphological and carpological investigation shows that Ladyginia and Spongiosyndesmus are congeneric. An emended generic description of Ladyginia is given and two new nomenclatural combinations Ladyginia afghanica and L. gigantea are made.

Based on the published data of molecular phylogenetic studies of the tribe Cariceae Dumort. genera (Cyperaceae), obtained by an international collaboration (The Global Carex Group, 2016; et al.), and morphological characters of the genera (Kukkonen, 1990; and others), new nomenclatural combinations and replacement names in the genus Carex L. are published for 11 species, one subspecies and two sections previously included in the genus Kobresia Willd.

Review of specimens and names of Faramea Aubl. (Rubiaceae, Coussareeae) has required new nomenclatural combinations, clarified the identities of some previously described species, and discovered some new taxa. Here we transfer two Faramea names, F. suaveolens Duchass. and F. panurensis Müll. Arg., to Coussarea Aubl.; review the identities of F. cuencana Standl., F. multiflora A. Rich., F. oblongifolia Standl., F. parvibractea Steyerm., F. spathacea Müll. Arg. ex Standl., and F. suerrensis (Donn. Sm.) Donn. Sm.; lectotypify F. multiflora and F. panurensis; transfer to Faramea and lectotypify Rudgea scandens K. Krause; and describe 13 new species and two new subspecies: F. camposiana C. M. Taylor of Ecuador and Peru, F. foreroana C. M. Taylor of Colombia, F. fosteri C. M. Taylor of western South America, F. galerasana C. M. Taylor of Ecuador, F. grayumiana C. M. Taylor of Central America, F. kampauicola C. M. Taylor of Ecuador and Peru, F. neilliana C. M. Taylor of western South America, F. premontana C. M. Taylor of Ecuador, F. quijosana C. M. Taylor of Ecuador, F. ramosiana C. M. Taylor of Colombia, F. reyneliana C. M. Taylor of Peru, F. stoneana C. M. Taylor with two subspecies from Central and western South America, F. suerrensis subsp. miryamiae C. M. Taylor from Colombia, and F. vernicosa C. M. Taylor of Ecuador and Peru.

In modeling and simulation, model-form uncertainty arises from the lack of knowledge and simplification during modeling process and numerical treatment for ease of computation. Traditional uncertainty quantification approaches are based on assumptions of stochasticity in real, reciprocal, or functional spaces to make them computationally tractable. This makes the prediction of important quantities of interest such as rare events difficult. In this paper, a new approach to capture model-form uncertainty is proposed. It is based on fractional calculus, and its flexibility allows us to model a family of non-Gaussian processes, which provides a more generic description of the physical world. A generalized fractional Fokker-Planck equation (fFPE) is proposed to describe the drift-diffusion processes under long-range correlations and memory effects. A new model calibration approach based on the maximum accumulative mutual information is also proposed to reduce model-form uncertainty, where an optimization procedure is taken.

The fossil generic name Flabelleforma Herman 1989 is resurrected to replace the later homonym, Mucorites Herman 1979, used for unique Precambrian hyphal fungi-like microorganisms (Bacillariobiota), which is preoccupied by Mucorites Meschinelli ex Lindau 1900. The generic name Mucorites Meschinelli 1898, proposed for putative mycelial remains from the Lower Carboniferous (Visean) deposits of Esnost (France), was not validly published due to the lack of a separate generic description; the name was validated by Lindau in 1900.

Podosordaria Ellis et Holw. is used for those members of the Xylariaceae possessing stalkedor sessile stromata in the form of mammillate heads with erumpent ascocarps, containing whitish internal tissue, and covered with a brown to black or violaceous ectostroma; cylindrical to pyriform asci in which the ascospores may be biseriately arranged posteriorly; and one-celled, dark brown spores possessing elongated germ slits. The classical separation between Poronia Willd. ex Fr. and Podosordaria is maintained. An emended generic description and key are provided. Four new species and one new combination are described and illustrated—P. crinita on cow dung from the United States; P. ianthina on burro and goat dung from Mexico; P. phoenicea on zebra dung from Kenya; P. vinacea on burro dung from Mexico; and P. violacea (Sordaria violacea Ell. et Ev.) on cow, sheep, horse, and rabbit dung from Canada and the United States. One additional new combination, P. hircina (Poronia hircine Tai et Wei), is proposed. Brief comparative descriptions are included for those species not treated in detail. Short descriptive notes are provided for several taxa considered as doubtful representatives.

The genera Gymnoeurotium, Harpezomyces, and Sporophormis, all described recently by Malloch and Cain, are shown to be later synonyms of Chaetosartorya, Edyuillia, and Warcupiella, respectively, described 2 months earlier by Subramanian. Syncleistostroma Subr. is rejected as a nomen confusum because of discrepancies between the generic description and the designated type species, leaving Petromyces Malloch & Cain the correct generic name for the species involved.

Prior taxonomic studies in subtribe Pleurothallidinae have suggested a close relationship between miscellaneous species featuring long-repent, segmented rhizomes, abbreviated ramicauls, few-flowered inflorescences, and flowers with partially connate sepals and trilobed lip. The lack of phylogenetic information for most species has prevented further conclusions or changes in their taxonomy; and as a result, they are currently assigned to several unrelated genera: Anathallis, Madisonia, Pabstiella, Pleurothallis, Sansonia and Specklinia. We performed phylogenetic analyses using nuclear (nrITS) and five plastid (matK, psbD-trnT, rps16-trnQ, trnH-psbA and trnS-trnG) markers and demonstrated that these species form an isolated clade which requires generic recognition. The name Madisonia, previously a monotypic genus endemic of the Amazon basin, is re-circumscribed and expanded to include nine species distributed in the Atlantic Rainforest and the Caribbean. Eight new nomenclatural combinations are proposed.

Takahashi (1942) described Dialeurotrachelus cambodiensis, the type species of the monotypic whitefly genus, Dialeurotrachelus Takahashi from three syntype specimens collected on an unidentified tree in Cambodia, which were subsequently lost or destroyed. It was rediscovered after eight decades in the Indian territories of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A neotype is designated for D. cambodiensis Takahashi, from specimens collected on Diospyros kurzii Hiern (Ebenaceae) from Andaman Island, India. It is recorded for the first time from the Indian territories, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Pupal morphology is assessed for redefining the generic description with differential diagnoses from related genera, and anomalies involved with structure of the vasiform orifice and associated structures are discussed. Illustrations are provided of the puparia in life, camera lucida drawings, slide mounts, and scanning electron photomicrographs.
