AbstractSelf-assembled aggregates of 7,10-dibromo-2,3-dicyanopyrazinophenanthrene which act as a new organophotocatalyst in combination with Ni catalyst for the Caryl–Oacyl cross-coupling reactions of carboxylic acids with aryl halides are described. This visible-light-induced Caryl–Oacyl bond-formation reaction proceeds smoothly to afford aryl esters with satisfactory to excellent yields.

A series of 2-aminobenzothiazoles were synthesized by a palladium-catalysed oxidative coupling with good yields (62–89%). Iodobenzene was found to be effective as an additive in this intramolecular C–S bond-formation reaction. The directing thiourea group attached to the aryl ring is essential for the activation of the ortho C–H bond.

Phosphonium ylides have shown their synthetic usefulness in important carbon–carbon bond formation processes. Our new strategy employs phosphonium ylides as novel carbyne equivalents and features a new approach for constructing carbon–carbon bonds from alkenes.
