We report the isolation of a novel diterpene, designated as `amethane', from Isodon amethystoides (Lamiaceae). The diterpene [amethinol A; systematic name: (4aR,4bR,7R,10aS)-4b,7-dihydroxy-7-isopropyl-1,1-dimethyl-9-oxododecahydrobenzo[a]azulene-4a(2H)-carboxylic acid], possesses a unique skeleton containing a six/five/seven-membered tricyclic system. Intermolecular O—H...O close contacts were found to the carboxyl, carbonyl and hydroxy groups, connecting molecules into a two-dimensional structure. A possible biosynthetic pathway has been proposed. In addition, the compound was evaluated for its biological activities against different disease targets, and was found to significantly attenuate RORγt-dependent autoimmune responses.

Abstract. Application of the Brown-Samelson theorem, which shows that particle motion is integrable in a class of vorticity-conserving, two-dimensional incompressible flows, is extended here to a class of explicit time dependent dynamically balanced flows in multilayered systems. Particle motion for nonsteady two-dimensional flows with discontinuities in the vorticity or potential vorticity fields (modon solutions) is shown to be integrable. An example of a two-layer modon solution constrained by observations of a Gulf Stream ring system is discussed.

Abstract In this paper, we construct defects (domain walls) that connect different phases of two-dimensional gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs), as well as defects that embed those phases into the GLSMs. Via their action on boundary conditions these defects give rise to functors between the D-brane categories, which respectively describe the transport of D-branes between different phases, and embed the D-brane categories of the phases into the category of D-branes of the GLSMs.

In the title compound, C17H18N4O4, the dihedral angle between the benzene ring and 2,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole ring system is 89.41 (7)°. The pyran moiety adopts a strongly flattened boat conformation. In the crystal, molecules are linked by N—H...N, N—H...O, C—H...N and C—H...O hydrogen bonds into an infinite two-dimensional network parallel to (110). There are π–π interactions between the pyrazole rings in neighbouring layers [centroid–centroid distance = 3.621 (1) Å].
