There is a method of using the corded plumb as vertical reference straight line, located in front of the objective of a digital photocamera in the article. When we take picture of the object under study, there will be this straight line in the photo, from which we can carry out all necessary measurements in the Paint system with the following conversion them into metric system. All possible variants of location of the reference straight line relative to it axis are considered by the example of the construction of the tower round shape and it is shown a method of heeling calculation by image processing results. Experimental research to determine the degree of influence of plumb location in the photo relative to it axe on the accuracy of the heeling determination was carried out by shooting the brick chimney with the 30 metres height when the plumb is located on the chimney axis and on different distance from the left and right of the axis. It is set in the result that the plumb location has influence on the accuracy of heeling determination. The optimal location is on the centre of the top section of the chimney and there is shown the method of accounting corrections due to inaccurate location.

This is a brief report on the present status of asteroid polarimetry. A detailed paper is in preparation jointly with T. Gehrels.The first polarization measurements of asteroids were made by Lyot (1934), who photographically determined the polarization curves of Ceres and Vesta. These curves are reproduced by Dollfus (1961). Unfortunately, because of the low sensitivity of the photographic method, they do not agree very well with recent photoelectric measurements.The first photoelectric polarization measurements of asteroids were made by Provin (1955) (details of this work are given by Dollfus, 1961), and in recent years this work has been extended by Gehrels (unpublished) and by Veverka (1970). To date, fairly complete polarization curves for about a dozen asteroids have been obtained, and at least partial data are available for twice that number.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to reveal the unique thermal property of Mongolian clothing from the current western clothing and explain their environmental adaptation to the climate of Mongolian plateau in China. Design/methodology/approach Thermal insulation and the temperature rating (TR) of eight Mongolian robe ensembles and two western clothing ensembles were investigated by manikin testing and wearing trials, respectively. The clothing area factor (fcl) of these Mongolian clothing was measured by photographic method and estimated equation from ISO 15831. Finally, the TR prediction model for Mongolian clothing was built and compared with current models for western clothing in ISO 7730 and for Tibetan clothing in previous article. Findings The results demonstrated that the total thermal insulation of Mongolian robe ensembles was much bigger than that of western clothing ensembles and ranged from 1.81clo to 3.11clo during the whole year. The fcl of the Mongolian clothing should be determined by photographic method because the differences between these two methods were much bigger from 0.6 to 13.9 percent; the TR prediction model for Mongolian robe ensembles is TR=25.57−7.13Icl, which revealed that the environmental adaptation of Mongolian clothing was much better than that of western clothing and similar to that of Tibetan clothing. Originality/value The research findings give a detailed information about the thermal property of China Mongolian clothing, and explain the environmental adaptation of Mongolian clothing to the cold and changing climate.

The aim of this study was to assess agreement in the diagnosis of dental fluorosis performed by a standardized digital photographic method and a clinical examination (gold standard). 49 children (aged 7-9 years) were clinically evaluated by a trained examiner for the assessment of dental fluorosis. Central incisors were evaluated for the presence or absence of dental fluorosis and were photographed with a digital camera. Photographs were presented to three pediatric dentists, who examined the images. Data were analyzed using Cohen's kappa and validity values. Agreement in the diagnosis performed by the photographic method and clinical examination was good (0.67) and accuracy was 83.7%. The prevalence of dental fluorosis was reported to be higher in the clinical examination (49%) compared with the photographic method (36.7%). The photographic method presented higher specificity (96%) than sensitivity (70.8%), a positive predictive value (PPV) of 94.4% and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 77.4%. The diagnosis of dental fluorosis performed using the photographic method presented high specificity and PPV, which indicates that the method is reproducible and reliable for recording dental fluorosis.

Abstract We describe a simple, rapid, and inexpensive unidimensional high-resolution thin-layer chromatographic procedure for screening for aminoacidopathies in newborns. Protein-free filtrates are prepared for ultrafiltration of as little as 10 µl of plasma. A rapid, inexpensive photographic method provides large, high-contrast pictures of the chromatograms for permanent records. A day’s samples can be completed in 3 h, including all phases of the procedure.
