The ‘C–CN’ bond cleavage was applied to the recognition of N2H4 for the first time; the obvious change in color could be used for “naked-eye” detection; the corresponding detection limit was found to be 5.81 × 10−8 M (1.65 ppb); the probe could be applied for N2H4 detection in real water samples.

We designed a near-infrared ratiometric (2.1 to 15.3, I608/I735) fluorescent probe with a quick response (20 s) based on cyanine polyene derivatives. This probe can detect endogenous hypochlorous acid in HepG-2 cells and determine the hypochlorous acid content in 84 disinfectant and other actual samples.

For the rapid, ratiometric, fluorogenic and “naked eye” detection of H2S/S2−, a pro-excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT)-based receptor, 2-formyl-benzoic acid 2-benzothiazol-2-yl-phenyl ester (FBBP), has been designed.

A turn-on fluorescent probe for cysteine with high selectivity was designed and synthetized. The probe can be used for “naked-eye” detection of Cys with an obvious color change from yellow to colorless. The probe could be applied for Cys detection in real human serum.

In this work, a novel purine based probe PTAHN was successfully designed and synthesized. PTAHN displayed high selectivity towards Zn2+via turn-on fluorescence. What's more, PTAHN can be proficiently employed for imaging Zn2+ in living cells.
