Methoxyl group was introduced to obtain isomer-free methoxylation quinoidal bithiophene building block. Four polymers displayed narrow bandgap (<1.20 eV) and hole mobility of up to 2.70 cm2 V−1 s−1.

A thiophene–tetrafluorophenyl–thiophene building block was used in combination with a furan-substituted diketopyrrolopyrrole for synthesizing the polymer semiconductor, PDPPF-TFPT. PDPPF-TFPT exhibits ambipolar behaviour with hole and electron mobilities as high as 0.40 cm2 V−1 s−1 and 0.12 cm2 V−1 s−1.
