Non-equilibrium electrons in TiS2enhance optical nonlinearity, accompanied by a large modulation response (∼145%) and a short recovery time (∼768 fs). A femtosecond mode-locked laser with a pulse duration of ∼402 fs can be obtained employing TiS2-based optical switch.

Meningoencephalocele is a rare condition that usually occurs in children and is treated by neurosurgeons with occasional help from ENT doctors. The symptoms of meningoencephalocele might not develop until adulthood, but usually they are apparent immediately after birth. The case of small anterior basal transethmoidal meningoencephalocele in a 24-year-old patient who had headaches and runny nose since childhood is presented. Endonasal endoscopic approach for meningoencephalocele removal and skull base defect reconstruction was used. It was concluded that endoscopic endonasal approach is less invasive and provides an acceptable operative outcome with short recovery time and less postoperative complications in comparison with other external microsurgical approaches.

Abstract We employed density functional B3LYP to inspect the impact of Ru-decoration on a GaN nanotube (GaNNT) sensing performance in detection of purinethol (PT) drug. The interaction of the pristine GaNNT with the PT was found to be weak, and the sensing response is 4.3. Decorating an Ru atom into the GaNNT surface increases the adsorption energy (Ead) of PT from -6.5 to -23.6 kcal/mol. The sensing response significantly rises to 93.6 by Ru-decoration. A short recovery time of 15.7 s is found for the PT desorption from the Ru-decorated GaNNT surface at 298 K. The water solvent reduces Ead of PT to -20.1 kcal/mol. Thus, it suggests that Ru-decorated GaNNT may be a highly sensitive PT sensor with a short recovery time.

The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of lanthanide bisphthalocyanine (Lu(TBPc)Pc), including first hyperpolarizability, second hyperpolarizability and reverse saturable absorption (RSA), have been investigated. Furthermore, Lu(TBPc)Pc has also been applied for optical switch based on its RSA performance.

This article compares the results of the ultrasound and the conventional methods of liposuction and tries to determine the advantages of the ultrasound method. In comparison to the conventional method, ultrasound liposuction shows much better results in saddlebags, the abdominal wall, and the buttocks. The treatment of cellulite with ultrasound liposuction has proved to be more successful and the lift effect of the skin remains 4–6 months longer than with conventional liposuction. On the other hand, the long-term results do not show any significant differences between the two methods; we have observed equal results from both techniques after six months. Ultrasound liposuction at the knees, inner thighs, arms, and ankles has proven not to be very successful. The advantages of the ultrasound method are less pain, less bruising, less blood in the aspirate, and a short recovery time. The disadvantages are the very high expenses and the impossibility of using the aspirated fat again.

Optical nonlinearity involved switching draws an important consideration in nonlinear optical studies. Based on that, we explored nonlinear absorption processes in silver nanoparticles synthesized by liquid phase laser ablation technique employing a second harmonic wavelength (532 nm) of Q switched Nd:YAG laser pulses with 7 ns pulse width and 10 Hz repetition rates. The typical surface plasmon resonance induced absorption (~418 nm) confirmed the formation of Ag NPs. The Z-scan technique was used to study the nonlinear optical processes, employing the same laser system used for ablation. Our study reveals that there is an occurrence of a saturable to reverse saturable absorption switching activity in the Ag nanoparticles, which is strongly on-axis input intensity dependent as well. The closed aperture Z-scan analysis revealed the self-defocusing nature of the sample.
