Turnip is an ancient edible plant belongs to family Braaicacaceae. Traditionally it is used for the treatment of various disorders such as diabetes, hepatotoxicity, ulcer, and anti-inflammatory activity. Therefore the current investigation was attempted to investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of Brassica rapa root extract against complete fluids adjuvant induced inflammation in experimental animals. The Ethanol extract of Brassica rapa was prepared by a hot extraction procedure and phytochemical analysis of different extract was done by different chemical tests. Daily oral treatment of indomethacin, and extract for twenty-one days after three days of CFA administration significantly decrease the paw volume, hepatic biomarkers as well as ameliorated the level of a hematological parameter such as hemoglobin, RBC, WBC, ESR and bodyweight of experimental animals. From the result of the current investigation, it can be concluded that the Brassica rapa extract possesses anti-inflammatory activity. Further study is required to explore the mechanism responsible for its anti-inflammatory activity.

Maesa Montana is a flowering plant of the Myrsinaceae family, which is locally known as ramjani. The current study aimed to evaluate the in-vitro anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory activities of the root extract of this plant. The anti-inflammatory performances were measured by the hindrance of egg white denaturation, and anti-arthritic activity was investigated by Bovine serum protein. In the anti-inflammatory activity test, the methanolic root extract of this plant showed 69.29 ± 1.19 % of inhibition at a concentration of 1000 µg/mL and standard drug exhibited 90.11 ± 1.45 % of inhibition at the same concentration. Furthermore, in the anti-arthritic activity test, the extract demonstrated 68.18 ± 1.34 % of inhibition at a concentration of 1000 µg/mL whereas the standard diclofenac drug showed 90.65 ± 1.19 % of inhibition at the same concentration. These results revealed that the root extract of this plant possesses significant anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory activities based on the inhibition of BSA and protein denaturation. In the present study, analysis of in vitro inflammatory showed whole plant of Rhizophora mucronata Lam. (Malpighiales: Rhizophoraceae) can be the potent source. The data from this study showed that the R. mucronata leaf, bark and root extract could serve as an important anti-inflammatory agent. Moreover, among the three extracts, the stilt root and leaves extract showed highest anti inflammatory. In vitro anti-inflammatory activity of the selected plant extracts was evaluated using albumin denaturation, membrane stabilization and proteinase inhibitory assays. As part of the investigation on the mechanism of the anti-inflammation activity, ability of extract protein denaturation was studied. Maximum inhibition (296.26%) was observed from root extract followed by bark (259.48%) and leaf (237.62%). The extracts inhibited the heat induced hemolysis of RBCs to varying degree as show in table below. The maximum inhibition 284.17% was observed from bark extract followed by root (265.05%) and leaf (232.61%). It reveals that these phytochemical constituents are responsible to maximum protection of protein denaturation, albumin denaturation and membrane stabilization assay. The future work will be determination of anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activities by in vivo models.

Objective: The work is aimed to draw out the health beneficial properties of a weed (Parthenium hysterophorus Linn). The present work is organized to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of the ethanolic root extract of Parthenium hysterophorus Linn.Methods: In the present work the ethanolic extract was determined by using soxhlet apparatus. The antioxidant scavenging activity of this extract was determined by applying three different assay methods: (1) DPPH (1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl) free radical method. (2) Nitric oxide scavenging assay and (3) Reducing power method. The anti-inflammatory activity was determined by in vivo method i.e. Carrageenan induced rat paw edema.Results: DPPH radical scavenging activities of the standard antioxidant and extracts were found to be increased in dose dependent manner. The percentage inhibition increases from 4.19% to 97.09% within the concentration range of 10µg/ml to 160µg/ml. Parthenium hysterophorus Linn effectively reduced the generation of nitric oxide radicals from sodium nitroprusside solution in a concentration dependent manner and percentage inhibition increases from 3.53% to 55.21% within the concentration range 10µg/ml to 160µg/ml. All the concentrations of extract significantly showed higher absorbance than the absorbance of control reaction (0.9705) in reducing power assay. A Higher absorbance indicates high reducing power due to the formation of reduced intermediates. Parthenium hysterophorus Linn showed highly significant anti-inflammatory activity at a dose of 200 mg/kg and the lesser effect was observed at 100 mg/kg with the percentage change in paw volume at 0 min, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min and 120 min.Conclusion: Thus, from above experimental observations, it can be stated that Parthenium is a natural antioxidant and bearing anti-inflammatory activity.

Yashtimadhu Churna is one of the traditional formulations used as antacid, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antioxidant, analgesic, anti-stress, demulcent, antibacterial and anti-asthmatic agents. The formulation mainly contains Yastimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root extract. Present study described preliminary qualitative phytochemicals analysis and chromatographic fingerprinting of Yashtimadhu Churna using HPLC and HPTLC analysis. Study also presented anti-inflammatory potential of formulation using protein denaturation method. This study helps to establish standardization parameters of Yashtimadhu Churna and also confirmed anti-inflammatory potential of formulation.

Jatropha curcas is a medicinal plant with many therapeutic properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-malaria, anti-cancer and antioxidant. The root extract has been shown to possess high anti-inflammatory activity. Previously, the compounds responsible for this activity have not been fully elucidated. Two fractions (Fraction 1 and Fraction 2) obtained from a preparative HPLC of the root extract showed significant anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activities in RAW 264.7 murine macrophage cells with Fraction 1 giving higher nitric oxide (NO) inhibition compared to Fraction 2 and L-NAME. Further purification steps involving column chromatography, thin layer chromatography and analytical HPLC of Fraction 1 produced two fractions labeled as Fraction A and Fraction B. Both fractions showed anti-inflammatory activity without cytotoxic activity in RAW 264.7 cells. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis showed that Fraction A contained a group of 18 carbon fatty acid compounds consisting of 2 oxooctadecanoic acids; 15, 16 dihydroxy 9Z, 12Z octadecadienoic acid; octadecadienoic isomer and 15,16 dihydroxy 9Z, 12Z octadecadienoic acid, 15S, 16S. The 18-carbon fatty acid structure was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral data. The IC50 value of compounds in Fraction A for anti-inflammatory activity in RAW 264.7 cell line was 434.8±0.75 µg/mL. From the analysis, it can be concluded that Fraction A can be classified under 18 carbon long chain fatty acid group based on LC MS/MS and NMR analysis. This active compound shows an inhibition towards NO activity.
