Electrified railway traction transformer is a pivot that connects the electric locomotive and the public grid. Therefore, power quality problems caused by electric locomotive such as three-phase voltage imbalance, great voltage fluctuation and high harmonic content can be transmitted to the public grid via the traction transformer. To solve this problem, the solution of two sets of single-phase SVG (Static Var Generator) in back-to-back operation to solve power quality problems of the electrified railway is raised. This solution has been proved by practice effective in improving power quality of the traction transformer.

This paper explores methods to improve the power quality of large, single-phase, thyristor controlled equipment within industrial plants. An advanced shunt single phase power filter for the compensation of instantaneous harmonic current components in direct coupled booster melting in glass furnaces is presented. The validity of the excellent filtering characteristics is verified by a previous installation.

Today’s modern world, all the frequently using electrical appliances ranging from consumer products to state of the art industrial products exhibits nonlinearity. Due to this the quality of the Grid becomes worse. It also pollutes, electrical point of view, the other healthy systems also. In this connection, various approaches have been put forth to minimize the harmonics in the supply which in turn improve the quality of the power Grid in terms of improving real, reactive power flow and power factor. This paper proposes the novel approach to enhance the power quality in the grid by using simple method to extract the harmonic current compared to time consuming d-q modelling approach. This novel control techniques exhibit excellent dynamic performance, easy to implement, high robustness and stability. The proposed control scheme is verified by comparing its performance with its counterparts. In this connection a testing scheme is developed and tested with the help of MATLAB/SIMULINK package and it agrees in line with our proposed scheme.

—– In this paper, problem faced by grid connected pv inverter is presented. Inverters connected to grid are mostly affected due to short circuit problems in the power systems. Therefore it is essential to analyze power quality disturbances in order to improve the quality of the system. Performance of inverter is affected severely by voltage sag compared to other type of power quality disturbances. Also in this paper, multilevel inverter with sag condition and without sag condition is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK software
