To disclose changes of density of fish larva and other marine organisms in an open water channel before the open net interceptor, this acoustic monitoring point was determined in front of the first open net interceptor in the open seawater channel with considerations to monitoring functions of EK80 scientific echometer to various cold-source organism and the marine organism recovery efficiency of open net interceptor. The beam direction was perpendicular downward. Floating marine organism enters into the interceptor after passing through the acoustic beam, while the quantity of swimming fish larva into the interceptor is smaller under normal marine conditions since they have certain swimming ability.

In recent years, there have been large-scale jellyfish outbreaks in the Bohai Sea in summer, which have greatly affected the water intake for cold source of Hongyanhe nuclear power station in Fuzhou bay and threatened the normal operation. This study aims at early warning of invasion of jellyfish, designs and develops acoustic monitoring system for cold source biological (jellyfish)by using ascientificechosounder (EY60,70kHz,Simrad), and carries out real-time monitoring of the echo of cold source biological entering water intake, so as to obtain the resource density of jellyfish from June to September 2019. The acoustic data is processed with a software of Echoview to calculate the average SV and detect the strength of the single target to calculate the daily average flux of the monitoring point. According to the monitoring results, the maximum and minimum daily average values of SV were -62.7dB and -80.0dB, respectively. The maximum and minimum daily average values of target strength are -37.2dB and -81.0dB, respectively. The maximum and minimum daily average values of flux are 5.36ind/(s•m2) and 1.2x10-5ind/(s•m2).Combined with the daily cleaning amount of the monitoring point back-end intercepting network and meteorological data, the comparative analysis is carried out to determine the index level of the acoustic warning for cold source biological flowing into the water intake according to the correlation between average flux and amount of cleaned net.

This work analyzes the effects of the interaction between an oscillating sphere and free surface flows through the reconstruction of the flow field around the body and the analysis of the displacements. The experiments were performed in an open water channel, where the sphere had three different boundary conditions in respect to the flow, defined as h* (the ratio between the distance of the sphere upper surface from the free surface and the sphere diameter). A quasi-symmetric condition at h* = 2, with the sphere equally distant from the free surface and the channel bottom, and two conditions of asymmetric bounded flow, one with the sphere located at a distance of 0.003m from the bottom at h* = 3.97 and the other with the sphere close to the free surface at h* = 0, were considered. The sphere was free to move in two directions, streamwise (x) and transverse to the flow (y), and was characterized by values of mass ratio, m* = 1.34 (ratio between the system mass and the displaced fluid mass), and damping ratio, ζ = 0.004. The comparison between the results of the analyzed boundary conditions has shown the strong influence of the free surface on the evolution of the vortex structures downstream the obstacle.

In order to improve the safety of new generation nuclear power plant, passive containment cooling system is innovatively used in AP1000 reactor design. However, since the system operation is based on natural circulation, physical process failure — natural circulation cannot establish or be maintained — becomes one of the important failure modes. Uncertainties in the physical parameters such as heat and cold source temperature and in the structure parameters have important effect on the system reliability. In this paper, thermal–hydraulic model is established for passive containment cooling system in AP1000 and the thermal–hydraulic performance is studied, the effect of factors such as air temperature and reactor power on the system reliability are analyzed.

On the basis of the certain form of write of an impulse equation the modeling of the solitary waves in the water channel is examined at action of gravitation forces. It is shown that as against an existing method of modelling where the waves propagating from left to right turn out from the equation of an impulse, and from right to left from the continuity equation in the offered technique both waves turn out from the equation of impulse. It is marked that the given method is physically more correct. Calculation of a solitary wave, its velocity and geometrical characteristics is submitted.

Abstract The safety of cooling water intake in nuclear power plants (NPPs) has gradually become an important factor affecting the safety of NPPs. Marine flora and fauna outbreaks are one of the main types affecting the safety of cooling water intake in NPPs, and the driving mechanism is more complicated and difficult to predict. This paper mainly analyzes the main types and typical cases of marine organisms that cause cooling water intake blockage in NPPs, and analyzes the key factors such as hydrodynamic conditions, timing of organism's outbreak, characteristics of species, and design of the screen systems. The results show that strong hydrodynamic conditions or strong tides caused by special meteorological conditions are important factors. Considering the time of organism's outbreak, spring and summer (May–August, may change slightly according to different latitude) is key period because of the reproduction and growth of most marine organisms, according to the growth law of marine organisms. In terms of biological characteristics, it is sensible to focus on those species with fast growth, strong reproductive capacity, short life cycle, weak swimming ability, and cluster distribution. As to the design of screen systems, the blockage mainly occurs in revolving filter screens. The grid spacing of normal mechanical grille is too large to block the small marine organisms. It is necessary to add trash interception nets according to the type and size of the marine species. Finally, a case is used to confirm the factors needed to pay more attention.

Smart cities have a significant impact on the future of renewable energies as terms such as sustainability and energy saving steadily become more common. In this regard, both wind and hydrokinetic compact-size turbines can play important roles in urban communities by providing energy to nearby consumption points in an environmentally suitable manner. To evaluate the operation of a Darrieus turbine rotor as a wind or hydro microgenerator, a series of wind tunnel and water current flume tests were performed. Power and characteristic curves were obtained for all test conditions. In the wind tests, all curves seemed to be identical, which means that the turbine rotor works properly under open-field conditions. Two blockage correction equations were applied to the water channel tests that were performed under blockage values ranging from 0.2 to 0.35 to estimate the operational behavior in open water. Finally, it has been demonstrated that, with the condition of maintaining the Reynolds number between experiments in the wind tunnel and water flume, the turbine wind characteristics represents the its operation in open-water conditions.
