In the downhole operation of horizontal Wells, the pipe string is subjected to the combined action of many kinds of loads. The pipe string may bend sinusoidal or spiral under the action of axial compressive stress, which will also increase the friction between the pipe string and the wellbore wall. Because of the existence of friction, to the milling, salvage, unstuck, sand and other construction to bring adverse effects. This paper describes the characteristics of horizontal well in fishing, sand washing, unlocking and casing milling. The paper introduces the development of horizontal well application, such as drilling technology matching for complex structure wells, high-level completion of lateral Wells, radial lateral wells in low permeability reservoirs and supporting technology for completion and production of horizontal wells.

Threshold pressure gradient (TPG) and stress sensitivity which cause the nonlinear flow in low permeability reservoirs were carried out by experiments. Firstly, the investigation of existing conditions of TPG for oil flow in irreducible water saturation low-permeability reservoirs was conducted and discussed, using the cores from a real offshore oilfield in China. The existence of TPG was proven. The relationship between TPG and absolute permeability was obtained by laboratory tests. TPG increases with decreasing absolute permeability. Then, stress sensitivity experiment was carried out through depressurizing experiment and step-up pressure experiment. Permeability modulus which characterizes stress sensitivity increases with decreasing absolute permeability. Consequently, a horizontal well pressure transient analysis mathematical model considering threshold pressure gradient and stress sensitivity was established on the basis of mass and momentum conservation equations. The finite element method (FEM) was presented to solve the model. Influencing factors, such as TPG, permeability modulus, skin factor, wellbore storage, horizontal length, horizontal position, and boundary effect on pressure and pressure derivative curves, were also discussed. Results analysis demonstrates that the pressure transient curves are different from Darcy’s model when considering the nonlinear flow characteristics. Both TPG and permeability modulus lead to more energy consumption and the reservoir pressure decreases more than Darcy’s model.

Due to the unique reservoir characteristics of the coalbed methane (CBM) in China, many technical problems have to be studied and solved in the development of horizontal wells for CBM. In this paper, based on the V-type wells, we have summarized the many techniques involved in Drilling and completion of horizontal well for CBM in Binchang mining area, such as leakage protection and sealing, geosteering while drilling, remote connection, variable density cementing, Coal seam cavitation, fiberglass casing running into the well, and etc. It is pointed out that the air foam under-balance drilling will be the development direction for coalbed methane drilling technology.

After Vogel proposed a dimensionless inflow performance equation, with the rise of the horizontal well production mode, a large number of inflow performance relationship (IPR) equations have emerged. In the productivity analysis of deviated and horizontal wells, the IPR equation proposed by Cheng is mainly used. However, it is still unclear whether these inflow performance models (such as the Cheng, Klins-Majcher, Bendakhlia-Aziz, and Wiggins-Russell-Jennings types) are suitable for productivity evaluations of horizontal and deviated wells in low-permeability reservoirs. In-depth comparisons and analyses have not been carried out, which hinders improvements in the accuracy of the productivity evaluations of horizontal wells in low-permeability reservoirs. In this study, exploratory work was conducted in two areas. First, the linear flow function relationship used in previous studies was improved. Based on the experimental pressure-volume-temperature results, a power exponential flow function model was established according to different intervals greater or less than the bubble point pressure, which was introduced into the subsequent derivation of the inflow performance equation. Second, given the particularity of low-permeability reservoir percolation, considering that the reservoir is a deformation medium, and because of the existence of a threshold pressure gradient in fluid flow, the relationship between permeability and pressure was changed. The starting pressure gradient was introduced into the subsequent establishment of the inflow performance equation. Based on the above two aspects of this work, the dimensionless IPR of single-phase and oil-gas two-phase horizontal wells in a deformed medium reservoir was established by using the equivalent seepage resistance method and complex potential superposition principle. Furthermore, through regression and error analyses of the standard inflow performance data, the correlation coefficients and error distributions of six types of IPR equations applicable to deviated and horizontal wells at different inclination angles were compared. The results show that the IPR equation established in this study features good stability and accuracy and that it can fully reflect the particularity of low-permeability reservoir seepage. It provides the best choice of the IPR between inclined wells and horizontal wells in low-permeability reservoirs. The other types of IPR equations are the Wiggins-Russell-Jennings, Klins-Majcher, Vogel, Fetkovich, Bendakhlia-Aziz, and Harrison equations, listed here in order from good to poor in accuracy.

There are 10 wells located in the Shun 9 well field in Silurian system of Shuntuoguole block, 7 of them were drilled wells. The statistics of complex drilling accidents indicated that tight pull, sticking of drill tools, pump blocked and mud loss were major types of drilling accidents in building section of horizontal wells. Specially. The high drill resistance of the formation caused low penetration rate and frequently bits replacing. As a consequence, the exploration rate in this area was severely restrained. We proposed the following three technical research directions: anti-collapse technology research, long-reach horizontal well drilling technology research and countermeasures of enhancing drilling speed segment by segment along the well.

Abstract The active building of HW with MSHF use for ensuring their effective development in low-permeability reservoirs, but there are certain difficulties with getting completely information for making the right decisions during control of development. As part of the work performed, the main uncertainties and the further application of research results for estimates the profile of horizontal well (HW) with multi-stage hydraulic fracturing (MSHF) for planning the necessary geological and technical actions based on more than 20 operations at the South Priobskoye field are shown. The following field geophysical tests were executed in wells: PLT with Y-tool and CT + spectral noise logging module;PLT during compression with CT + multi-sensor flow meter;PLT with a well tractor;tracer studies (proppant, frac sleeves);thermometry with using fiber-optic system in injection and production wells.
