In this paper, we present a tool dedicated to assessing life quality according to the notion of comfort which can link three aspects of noise, light, and air pollution with two aspects of thermal and odour discomfort because the beforementioned aspects are using different calculation methods of the parameters which are distinct and some of them are defined in the national or EU legislation. The authors developed a compressive database to evaluate representative quantities of energy loses. There were considered some performance indicators as: energy class, total specific energy consumption, CO2 equivalent emission index, the overall heat transfer coefficient of the building and characteristic temperatures, the corrected number of degrees days, and the duration of the heating season - at locality level.

Objective: To study the specificities and parameters of the new, including innovative, freight and passenger electric locomotives, produced for domestic railways in the framework of the program of creating the new locomotives in 2004–2010. To analyze pull and energy efficiency parameters of direct current and alternating current electric locomotives. To estimate the maximum weight of trains and specific energy consumption of electric locomotives. To detect the advantages of new electric locomotives in comparison with those produced earlier. To develop guidelines on efficiency improvement of the new electric locomotives. Methods: Comparative analysis, methods of grade computations, linear regression analysis, power balance method. Results: The main design features and parameters of the new and earlier produced electric locomotives were studied, the former include the power of tractive motors, traction effort, as well as the speed at continuous rating of traction. The parameters of the new and earlier produced electric locomotives were compared. Key performance indicators of electric locomotives were analyzed, such as the maximum mass of a train and specific energy consumption on traction. The comparison of the above-mentioned indicators with performance indicators of earlier produced electric locomotives was given. According to calculation data and statistical data analysis the advantages of new electric locomotives were determined over those produced earlier. High performance of regenerative breaking was shown, specifically new electric locomotives. It was detected that in winter regeneration of electric energy was significantly reduced, in case of regenerative braking of passenger electric locomotives series EP1 with alternating current, as most of energy generated by tractive motors was spent on electric heating circuits of passenger cars. Guidelines on efficiency improvement of new electric locomotives were developed. Practical importance: The conditions in which new electric locomotives would implement the available advantages were determined, compared to those produced earlier. The elaborated offers make it possible to improve pull and energy efficiency of the new electric locomotives in operation.

The article is devoted to the study of the level of happiness, welfare and quality of life of young people. The theoretical approaches to the “quality of life”, “welfare” and “happiness” concepts are examined. The infl uencing factors like the feeling of happiness, the quality of life of young people and the dependence of the young people well-being level from economic indicators are singled out. Methods for young people life quality studying include a number of author’s questionnaires — two questionnaires were developed: for working youth and for university students. Analysis of the factors shaping the quality of life, well-being and happiness of the modern young generation made it possible to specify the notion of “happiness”, “quality of life” and “well-being” and defi ne how the feeling of happiness and wellbeing aff ects the performance indicators and the potential of young people.

The article emphasizes the fact that traditional socio-economic indicators do not reflect the challenges of sustainable development adequately, and this is particularly true for the widely-used GDP indicator. In this connection the elaboration of sustainable development indicators is needed, taking into account economic, social and environmental factors. For Russia, adaptation and use of concepts and basic principles of calculation methods for adjusted net savings index (World Bank) and human development index (UNDP) as integral indicators can be promising. The authors have developed the sustainable development index for Russia, which aggregates and allows taking into account balanced economic, social and environmental indicators.

The paper deals with the research devoted to characteristics of high tech business development in Russia. Companies’ performance indicators have been analyzed with the help of regression analysis and author’s scheme of leadership stability and sustainability assessment. Data provided by Russia’s Fast Growing High-Tech Companies’ National Rating (TechUp) during 2012-2016 were used. The results have revealed that the high tech sector is characterized by high level of uncertainty. Limited number of regions and sectors which form the basis for high tech business have been defined. Relationship between innovation activity’s indicators and export potential is determined.
