A search for narrow resonances in dimuon invariant mass spectra has been performed using 13 fb-1 data obtained in 2016 from proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. No evidence for physics beyond standard model is found. Limits on the production cross section and the masses of hypothetical particles that could appear in the scenarios of new physics have been set.

AbstractA structure is observed in the $${B} ^{\pm }{K} ^{\mp }$$ B ± K ∓ mass spectrum in a sample of proton–proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9$$\,\text {fb} ^{-1}$$ fb - 1 . The structure is interpreted as the result of overlapping excited $${B} ^0_{s} $$ B s 0 states. With high significance, a two-peak hypothesis provides a better description of the data than a single resonance. Under this hypothesis the masses and widths of the two states, assuming they decay directly to $${B} ^{\pm }{K} ^{\mp }$$ B ± K ∓ , are determined to be $$\begin{aligned} m_1&= 6063.5 \pm 1.2 \text { (stat)} \pm 0.8\text { (syst)}\,\text {Me}\text {V}, \\ \Gamma _1&= 26 \pm 4 \text { (stat)} \pm 4\text { (syst)}\,\text {Me}\text {V}, \\ m_2&= 6114 \pm 3 \text { (stat)} \pm 5\text { (syst)}\,\text {Me}\text {V}, \\ \Gamma _2&= 66 \pm 18 \text { (stat)} \pm 21\text { (syst)}\,\text {Me}\text {V}. \end{aligned}$$ m 1 = 6063.5 ± 1.2 (stat) ± 0.8 (syst) Me , Γ 1 = 26 ± 4 (stat) ± 4 (syst) Me , m 2 = 6114 ± 3 (stat) ± 5 (syst) Me , Γ 2 = 66 ± 18 (stat) ± 21 (syst) Me . Alternative values assuming a decay through $${B} ^{*\pm }{K} ^{\mp }$$ B ∗ ± K ∓ , with a missing photon from the $$B^{*\pm } \rightarrow B^{\pm }\gamma $$ B ∗ ± → B ± γ decay, which are shifted by approximately 45$$\,\text {Me}$$ Me V, are also determined. The possibility of a single state decaying in both channels is also considered. The ratio of the total production cross-section times branching fraction of the new states relative to the previously observed $$B_{s2}^{*0}$$ B s 2 ∗ 0 state is determined to be $$0.87 \pm 0.15 \text { (stat)} \pm 0.19 \text { (syst)}$$ 0.87 ± 0.15 (stat) ± 0.19 (syst) .

Prediction of Z→l+l- production cross section (where l±=e±,μ±) in proton-proton collisions at s=14 TeV is estimated up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD including next-to-leading order (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections. The total inclusive Z boson production cross section times leptonic branching ratio, within the invariant mass window 66<mll<116 GeV, is predicted using NNLO HERAPDF2.0 at NNLO QCD and NLO EW as σZTot=2111.69-26.92+26.31 (PDF) ±11 (αs) ±17 (scale) -30.98+57.41 (parameterization and model). Theoretical prediction of the fiducial cross section is further computed with the latest modern PDF models (CT14, MMHT2014, NNPDF3.0, HERAPDF2.0, and ABM12) at NNLO for QCD and NLO for EW. The central values of the predictions are based on DYNNLO 1.5 program and the uncertainties are extracted using FEWZ 3.1 program. In addition, the cross section is also calculated as functions of μR and μF scales. The choice of μR and μF for scale variation uncertainty is further discussed in detail.

In this paper we review the results of a measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry of oppositely charged lepton pairs produced via Z/γ* boson in pp collisions during the LHC Run 1 at √s = 8 TeV with integrated luminosity 19.1 fb-1 (2012). We also present our preliminary results obtained with Monte Carlo samples at √s = 13 TeV

We present the implementation in the MadAnalysis 5 framework of the CMS-HIG-18-011 search for exotic decays of the Standard Model Higgs boson, in which the Higgs boson is assumed to decay into a pair of light pseudoscalar [Formula: see text], that then further decay into a di-muon and di-[Formula: see text]-jet final state. This analysis considers proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and data collected by the CMS experiment in 2016, with an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb[Formula: see text]. We present a selection of recast predictions, obtained with MadAnalysis 5 and Delphes 3, that include a few differential distributions, yields, and efficiencies. We show that they agree at a level of a few percent with public CMS results.
