This paper presents the innovative emergency Sanitation Operation System (eSOS) concept created to improve the entire emergency sanitation chain and provide decent sanitation to people in need. The eSOS kit is described including its components: eSOS smart toilets, an intelligent excreta collection vehicle-tracking system, a decentralized excreta treatment facility, an emergency sanitation coordination center, and an integrated eSOS communication and management system. The paper further deals with costs and the eSOS business model, its challenges, applicability and relevance. The first application, currently taking place in the Philippines will bring valuable insights on the future of the eSOS smart toilet. It is expected that eSOS will bring changes to traditional disaster relief management.

Abstract The development of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) encountered the problem of controlling the process of technical operation. The literature that is available to the authors lacks credible information concerning the principles of specifying the strategy and control of the process of UAS operation. Hence, it is necessary to recognise and interpret the basic UAS operation features. The purpose of the publication is to present the properties of the UAS as an object of operation and the mutual relation of the technical operation process with the UAS’ technical condition alteration process. We present the results of analyses in terms of functionality and the UAS’ utility potential. The publication pays special attention to the properties of the UAS as an object of operation. The paper includes the analysis of the UAS operation principles and the specification of the advantage and disadvantage of those principles, i.e. using a non-repairable UAS until damaged, using a repairable UAS until damaged, periodical technical servicing, continuous diagnostic operation. The proposals for the control models in the UAS operation system have also been included.

In the face of increasingly congested urban traffic caused by all sorts of harm, how to solve the traffic congestion problem in the urban is becoming the major hot spot which domestic and foreign experts and scholars pay close attention to and study. This paper in a microscopic angle to analyze the problem -- urban traffic intersection congestion,not in macroscopical city planning, transportation planning, urban traffic demand to discuss. Through exploring the urban road system structure and operational mechanism, development of the automobile overpass is to solve the intersection congestion.

“The wisdom of crowds” is often observed in social discourses and activities around us. The manifestations of it are, however, so intrinsically embedded and behaviorally accepted that an elaboration of a social phenomenon evidencing such wisdom is often considered a discovery; or at least an astonishing fact. One such scenario is explored here, namely, the conceptualization and modeling of a food safety system—a system directly related to social cognition. The first contribution of this paper is the re-evaluation of Knowles’s model towards a more conscious understanding of “the wisdom of crowds” effects on inspection and consumption behaviors. The second contribution is augmenting the model with social networking capabilities, which acts as a medium to spread information about stores and help consumers find uncontaminated stores. Simulation results revealed that stores respecting social cognition improve the effectiveness of the food safety system for consumers as well as for the stores. Simulation findings also revealed that active societies have the capability to self-organize effectively, even if they lack regulatory obligations.

Integrating traditionally separate industrial control systems can derive factory-wide benefits by leveraging more information about the ongoing process. This paper shows that connecting a networked safety system and a process control system leads to an extension of the individual benefits provided by each system. A safety system gains the ability to protect not only the machines and workers but also the product that is being built. A diagnostic system can also raise safety alarms when a process variable is outside the expected range of safe operation. This connection is explored to determine the practical impact of different methods of integration on machining and system processes. Three integration methods are possible depending on which portions of the system can be classified as “safe”. A case study integrating a diagnostics system as a non-safe sensor proves that this connection, when it is implemented on an industrial testbed, provides all of the benefits described and does not require significant changes to control software.

Abstract Aiming at the problem of on-line centralized monitoring error of pipeline and cable environment and fresh air of air conditioning, a utility model is designed, a centralized monitoring system of pipeline and cable environment and fresh air of air conditioning is disclosed, the system structure configuration is optimized, and the system performance is improved by combining multiple central air conditioning controllers, data processors, acquisition servers and other equipment, combined with LabVIEW technology, the system software function and operation process are improved. Finally, the experiment proves that the centralized online monitoring system for pipeline and cable environment and air conditioning fresh air can better reduce the monitoring error and ensure the real-time monitoring quality of pipeline and cable environment and air conditioning fresh air.
