Qigong meditation is an ancient form of meditation that has been linked with various health benefits. We were interested in whether or not this form of meditation has a relationship with personality. To this end, we administered the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) to eighty Qigong meditation practitioners and seventy-four non-practitioners. The results showed that the number of years of Qigong practice was negatively correlated with neuroticism, but there was no relationship with extraversion. Even after controlling for age, gender, and education level, the practitioners were significantly less neurotic than the nonpractitioners. The study of Qigong meditation and personality may lead to a greater understanding of the various disorders characterized by high neuroticism, and may provide a viable treatment option for long-term health.

ABSTRACT: A miniature pig was examined because of left pelvic limb lameness after falling from a short height. Clinical examination and radiographs of the pelvic region revealed a left caudoventral hip luxation. Surgical reduction of luxation was performed on the patient under general anesthesia using a transarticular pinning technique. Postoperative radiographs confirmed that the luxation was reduced, the joint was aligned, and the transarticular pinning was correct. The transarticular pin was removed 21 days after it was surgically inserted. The limb was fully functional in the immediate postoperative period. Nine months after the surgery, the patient could use the limb properly, but mild degenerative joint disease was observed via radiographic follow-up. This technique may be a viable treatment option for the repair of caudoventral hip luxation in miniature pigs.

Hair transplantation for females has become a much more viable treatment option because of recent improvements in technique employing micrografts and minigrafts as well as multiple-strip donor harvesting. The author describes how these new techniques are applied to the various types of transplantation in women, such as for androgenetic alopecia, traction alopecia, eyebrows, inactive inflammatory dermatosis, hair loss, and postrhytidectomy scarring. “Pearls,” to emphasize the contrast in the approach to the treatment of women with that of their male counterparts and the importance of assessing for realistic expectations, are described. A review of 827 females seen in consultation over the last 10 years showed that 70% of women with androgenetic alopecia were candidates for hair transplants.
