Abstract The aim of this paper is to study bounds for lifespan of solutions to the following equation: $$ u_{tt}-\Delta u+ \int _{0}^{t}g(t-\tau )\Delta u(\tau )\,d\tau + \vert u_{t} \vert ^{m(x,t)-2}u _{t}= \vert u \vert ^{p(x,t)-2}u $$utt−Δu+∫0tg(t−τ)Δu(τ)dτ+|ut|m(x,t)−2ut=|u|p(x,t)−2u under homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is worth pointing out that it is not a trivial generalization for constant-exponent problems because we have to face some essential difficulties in studying such problems. The first difficulty is that the monotonicity of the energy functional fails. Another one is that there exists a gap between the norm and the modular to the generalized function space, which leads to the failure of the Poincaré inequality for modular form. To overcome such difficulties, the authors construct control function and apply new energy estimates to establish the quantitative relationship between the source $\int _{\varOmega }|u|^{p(x,t)}\,dx$∫Ω|u|p(x,t)dx and the initial energy, and then obtain the finite-time blow-up of solutions for a positive initial energy, especially, the authors only assume that $p_{t}(x,t)$pt(x,t) is integrable rather than uniformly bounded. Such weak conditions are seldom seen for the variable exponent case. At last, an estimate of lower bound for lifespan is established by applying differential inequality argument and energy inequalities.

Abstract In this paper, we consider the blow-up result of solution for a quasilinear von Karman equation of memory type with nonpositive initial energy as well as positive initial energy. For nonincreasing function $g>0$ g > 0 and nondecreasing function f, we prove a finite time blow-up result under suitable condition on the initial data.

<p style='text-indent:20px;'>In this paper, we consider a class of finitely degenerate coupled parabolic systems. At high initial energy level <inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">\begin{document}$ J(u_{0})&gt;d $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula>, we present a new sufficient condition to describe the global existence and nonexistence of solutions for problem (1)-(4) respectively. Moreover, by applying the Levine's concavity method, we give some affirmative answers to finite time blow up of solutions at arbitrary positive initial energy <inline-formula><tex-math id="M2">\begin{document}$ J(u_{0})&gt;0 $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula>, including the estimate of upper bound of blowup time.</p>

We consider an abstract coupled evolution system of second order in time. For any positive value of the initial energy, in particular for high energies, we give sufficient conditions on the initial data to conclude nonexistence of global solutions. We compare our results with those in the literature and show how we improve them.

This paper deals with the initial boundary value problem for the nonlinear viscoelastic Petrovsky equationutt+Δ2u−∫0tgt−τΔ2ux,τdτ−Δut−Δutt+utm−1ut=up−1u. Under certain conditions ongand the assumption thatm<p, we establish some asymptotic behavior and blow-up results for solutions with positive initial energy.
