Geographical information systems as a methodology is a relatively new technology in scientific research and finding practical solutions for geographical problems. One of those problems is the complex over categorical set [1] known as environment. It is a very actual and complex problematic, hard for organizing and optimization when it has to set about the needs of humanity. Therefore, this article deals with the application of geographic information systems as one of the latest scien-tific techniques and technologies through which one can analyze and define the most optimal solutions in terms of environmental protection and sustainable development. The aim is to highlight the quantitative and qualitative aspects of GIS technology in function of the environ-ment on the one hand, and through concrete examples to point out to the power of these technologies in the process of finding optimal solutions. It is briefly pointed out to some general criteria that are inevitable in the process of creating databases in GIS necessary for adequate and suitable GIS analyses.

AbstractFrom the beginning of human existence, man collected and analysed information about the space that surrounded him. Nowadays, due to the huge amount of data, it would be impossible without geographic information systems. According to the definition, the main function of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is to collect, process, integrate, analyse and present data directly collected in the database or obtained through analysis. The basis of each information system’s functioning is the collection of relevant data about real-world objects, in terms of their completeness, quality and reliability. Due to the very rapid development of information technology, GIS systems have found a wide application, eg. in spatial planning, real estate management, administration, infrastructure management and many other areas of life. The authors within the article have made a detailed review of the current using of GIS, with particular emphasis on the mining industry. In the latter, particular attention was focused on the use of this type of tools to monitor and analyse the effects of mining activities. At the same time, the authors indicated new possibilities related to the application of geographic information systems in this branch.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are the systems that store location based data and analyze them. In this study, GIS is defined and its importance and functions are described. Usage of GIS in marketing area is explained in details and finally number of academic publications about GIS in general and in marketing literature for decades are analyzed through five different and some of the mostly used databases in social sciences, which are Ebsco, ProQuest, Sage, Springer and Science Direct. Since the importance and usage of GIS in marketing applications and literature increases, however its ratio in total GIS literature is not sufficient yet.

To achieve good results in public management of natural resources, the use of technologies associated with the administration is essential. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) make it possible to integrate administrative databases of municipalities to cartographic databases, allowing greater flexibility in decision-making resource conservation. The multiple analyzes that can be executed in a GIS lead, together, the best management for a large amount of data. With this in mind, was developed the extension project "GIS and Public Management: University-Administration Interaction", which are presented here some experiences during its execution period (2016-2017). The objectives of the project were: to train public managers (primarily), University's students and the average population about the application of GIS (SPRING); to promote the exchange of experiences of different applications of the Software in the public administration; advise public managers on decision making and encourage the provision of data and technical results for further studies. The classroom activities were held on the premises of the UNESP Campus at Ilha Solteira - SP and included workshops and practical exercises with GIS. It is worth noting the assiduity and the positive final evaluation of all participants (in 2016 and 2017), the will to exchange experiences and the search for new ways of data acquisition and processing solutions, as well as sharing it. The experience exchange and the search for new solutions were the most critical factors in the interaction between the students and the team that developed the course. Cameroon through its Strategy for Growth and Employment (DSCE), has set up the construction of the Yaoundé-Nsimalen highway project. As part of the assessments of its potential effects on the environment, an ESIA was carried out, according to the framework law on the management of the environment. The acquisition of housing has resulted in an '' anarchic '' installation in the urban and peri-urban area. The construction of a highway as planned overlays on these facilities and poses a problem related to the liberation of spaces previously occupied. The purpose of this study is to identify, locate and classify the impacted goods by the highway construction project through Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Our methodology consisted first, making a satellite identification of the impacted goods, then a field campaign and finally a processing of the data collected. This study was also limited to the identification of two types of property, the buildings and parcels of land. Thus, it has been possible to distinguish and locate six categories of buildings, eight categories of parcels of land defined according to the Cameroon law No. 85/009 of 04 July 1985 on the expropriation for public purpose and the terms of compensation and according to Order No. 0082 / y. 15.1 / MNUH / D of November 20, 1987 laying down the bases for calculating the market value of buildings expropriated for reasons of public utility. The result of this study shows that mapping is a very practical tool for identifying and materializing the impacts that a project may have on components of environment. The GIS revealed a potential disappearance of 1502 building spread over 867 parcels of land.

This paper is composed of two parts dealing with the modeling of environmental phenomena. The first part presents the traditional ER and OO formalisms dedicated to geographic information modeling. These languages focus mainly on representing the spatial and temporal properties of this type of information. Many of these languages express these properties visually by using pictograms. After a quick historical presentation of the languages, the authors show the various types of spatiality and temporality usually encountered in these languages. Often qualified as primitive, some of these spatialities and temporalities are simple. Others, which are more complex, result from combinations of simple spatialities and simple temporalities. Still others are used in very specific situations encountered during the development of geographical information systems. These different spatialities and temporalities are presented via examples provided in the field of environmental dynamics.
